A plate that quits tamping usually sends you into the exciter, and these 133 pages exist to get you through that rebuild: the Wacker Neuson DPU 6555H and DPU 6555He repair manual PDF, factory document 510005945/02, covering four variants of the vibratory plate including the Heap and Hec builds. Exciter shaft work fills the largest share of the book, from pressing the deep groove ball bearings to timing the eccentric weights on their shafts. For the electrics, a dedicated wiring diagram traces the Compatec circuit from ignition starter switch through fuse to LED lamp, and an electrical troubleshooting chart covers the charge control lamp and voltage regulator. Replace the V-belt once it wears to 15.5 mm, and pull the clutch's hexagon socket head cap screw to 86 N·m. Timing those weights by eye costs bearings. Bought once, this bookmarked, text searchable file is yours for the life of the machine.

Wacker Neuson DPU 6555H, DPU 6555He, DPU 6555Heap, DPU 6555Hec Common Problems This Manual Covers

Wacker Neuson DPU 6555H will not reverse or shifts slowly, sticks in forward travel

Check hydraulic oil in the center pole head first; low oil pulls air into the control circuit and the plate creeps forward only. Bleed the control and top up to the 0.4 liter fill volume given on page 91. If reversing still sticks, disassemble the center pole head starting on page 85 and inspect the control piston and O-ring.

Manual Section: Assembly of the Center Pole Head p. 91
Engine runs at full speed but compaction is weak and plate barely vibrates

Measure the excitation V-belt width and replace it once worn below 15.5 mm, the limit given on page 56. Follow the clutch disassembly steps starting on page 45 to swap the belt, then torque the clutch screw to 49 N·m during reassembly. Verify exciter oil is at the 0.8 L quantity listed on page 19.

Manual Section: Assembly of the Clutch Und Installation of the V-Belt p. 56
Electric start model will not crank and the charge control LED stays off

Test battery voltage first; below 12.5 volts, charge or replace it following the electrical troubleshooting steps on page 130. With the engine running, measure coil assembly output; normal is approximately 32 volts AC plus or minus 5 volts. If output is low, set the coil gap to 0.7 mm and confirm regulator output of 14.5 volts, page 132.

Manual Section: Electrical Troubleshooting p. 130
Compatec diodes flash together or compaction display reads wrong or nothing at all

Work through the Compatec troubleshooting table on page 128; simultaneous flashing of all diodes usually points to a sensor or wiring fault. Check every plug connection against the wiring diagram on page 129 and confirm the battery holds at least 12.5 volts. After any component swap, refit the battery guard cover and torque its four nuts to 10 N·m.

Manual Section: Assembly and Disassembly of the Compatec Components p. 128
Hydraulic oil leaking at the center pole, travel control gradually loses function

Trace the leak to the hose pipe and hollow screw connections on the upper mass; renew both seals during reassembly per page 77. Replace any chafed or weeping hydraulic hose while you are in there, then refill with the 0.4 L hydraulic oil quantity from page 19 and bleed the control until reverse engages cleanly.

Manual Section: Assembly of the Upper Mass p. 77

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the torque specification for the engine mounting bolts on the DPU 6555?

The 8 hexagon socket head cap screws used to mount the engine to the upper mass must be tightened to a torque of 86 N·m. p. 71

How do I replace the exciter V-belt on a Wacker Neuson DPU 6555?

To replace the V-belt, you must first remove the belt guard and the clutch assembly as described in chapter 9. Once the clutch is removed, push the V-belt (pos. 15) downward, pull it towards you, and lift it out of the exciter pulley. p. 47

What is the required oil capacity for the exciter on a DPU 6555?

The exciter requires 0.8 liters of Fuchs Titan 10 W 40 oil. p. 19

What is the torque spec for the protective frame bolts on a Wacker Neuson DPU 6555H vibratory plate?

The 4 hexagon socket head cap screws for the protective frame must be tightened to 120 N·m. p. 28
