Part of the Case Repair Manuals.
This is the complete factory repair manual for the Case 5120, 5130, 5140, and 5150 Maxxum tractors. It is organized into nine major service groups and covers the tractor from the turbocharged diesel engine and fuel system, through the electrical system, steering, the synchromesh, powershift, range, and creep transmissions, the MFD front drive, brakes, and the hydraulic system, to the cab and air conditioning. Many sections carry PIN-specific variants, so the wiring schematics, powershift troubleshooting, and air conditioning procedures are split by serial number to match exactly what is fitted to your tractor. You get step-by-step disassembly and assembly, troubleshooting with schematics, and the specifications and torque values needed to return the tractor to factory spec.

Case 5120, 5130, 5140, 5150 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Powershift transmission slips or fails to engage gears
Use the Transmission group. Match your tractor's PIN to the correct Powershift Troubleshooting and Schematics section, check the powershift valve operation, and follow the documented troubleshooting before disassembly, since the electronic and valve faults differ between build ranges. The servicing procedure gives the disassembly and specification steps to rebuild the powershift clutches if needed.
Manual Section: TransmissionEngine shuts down unexpectedly or loses power under load
Work the Fuel System and Engine sections. Check fuel delivery, the CAV or Bosch injection pump, and the injectors first, then use the engine specifications and the turbocharger failure analysis if boost is suspect. Confirm readings against the engine specifications before opening the engine.
Manual Section: Engine / Fuel SystemSteering becomes stiff or unresponsive
Go to the Steering group and service the fitted steering hand pump, Danfoss or Eaton, along with the steering cylinder and front axle. Confirm hydraulic supply and pressure before replacing the hand pump, since a supply or relief fault often presents as stiff steering.
Manual Section: SteeringHitch or hydraulics lift slowly or fail to hold
Use the Hydraulics group. Start with the hydraulic troubleshooting and schematics to isolate whether the fault is the hydraulic pump, charge pump, a remote or shuttle valve, or the draft sensing valve, then follow the component procedure. Confirm pressures against the specifications before replacing the pump, and match the hydraulic pump variant to your PIN.
Manual Section: HydraulicsFrequently Asked Questions
My tractor has a specific PIN. Does this manual give the right procedure for my serial number?
Yes. The Maxxum went through several running changes, so the electrical schematics, powershift troubleshooting, air conditioning, and cab removal sections are split by PIN (serial number) range. Check your tractor's PIN against the section headings and follow the variant that matches, because the wiring and procedures differ between the early and later builds.
Which transmissions are covered, synchromesh or powershift?
Both, plus more. The Transmission group has separate procedures for servicing the synchromesh transmission, the powershift transmission, the range transmission, and the creep transmission, along with the powershift valve, powershift troubleshooting and schematics, the torque limiter, and the steps for separating the tractor between the engine, speed, and range sections.
Which steering hand pump and injection pump does my tractor use?
The Steering group covers both the Danfoss and Eaton steering hand pumps, and the Fuel System group covers both the CAV and the Bosch fuel injection pumps. Identify which unit is fitted before ordering parts or seal kits, because the internals are not interchangeable between the makes.
The hydraulics or hitch lift poorly. What does the manual give me?
The Hydraulics group has the hydraulic troubleshooting and schematics, the hydraulic pump (in two build variants), the charge and lubrication pump, the hydraulic lift cylinder and position sensor, hitch adjustments, remote valves, the shuttle valve, and the draft sensing valve. That lets you trace a slow or weak lift from the schematic to the specific pump or valve.
Does it cover the turbocharger and the MFD front drive?
Yes. The Engine group covers the turbocharger and includes turbocharger failure analysis, and the Transmission group covers the MFD drive shaft, MFD clutch, and MFD axle, with the MFD steering cylinder in the Steering group. That gives you both the boost side and the four-wheel-drive side of the tractor.
