Case IH JX60 – JX95 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers

JX70 engine cranks slowly, stalls repeatedly under heavy towing load, and fails to restart

Check the troubleshooting chart for no-start and stalling causes first. Test injector pressure against the 248-272 bar (3596.9-3945.0 psi) setting on page 21; contaminated fuel throws this off fast. Drain and replace the fuel filter, bleed the system, then retorque injection pump mounting nuts to 25 Nm (18.4 ft lb) per page 40 if the pump was disturbed.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting Procedures
Hydraulic lift raises slowly or loses pressure after 2 hours of continuous operation

Work through the three causes on page 359: clogged oil filter, leaking piston or discharge fitting seals, or a worn pump. Replace the filter first since it's cheapest. If leaking, replace lift control pump seals 2, 9 and 11 as specified on page 360, torque the capscrews to 8 Nm and the cover nut to 41 Nm per page 351. Overhaul the pump if pressure still drops.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Fault Diagnosis p. 359
Clutch slips or engages fiercely, and the pedal feels stiff during heavy field work

Pull the clutch cover and measure the driven plate thickness against the 10.2 to 10.8 mm (0.4016-0.4252 in.) wear limit on page 147; replace the disc if it's thinner. When reinstalling, torque the clutch/flywheel retaining bolts to 25 Nm (18.4 ft lb) on JX60, JX70, JX80 and JX90, or 59 Nm (43.5 ft lb) on JX95, before road testing under load.

Manual Section: Clutch p. 147
Gearbox is hard to engage or grinds when shifting between ratios during work

Pull the gearbox and inspect the synchroniser teeth per the remedy on page 176; replace the synchronisers or engagement sleeves if teeth are chipped or rounded. If engagement is still rough after that, remove the clutch casing and replace the synchroniser itself as detailed on page 181. Don't reuse a synchroniser ring with visible cone wear, it will just slip again within hours.

Manual Section: Gearbox Fault Diagnosis p. 176
Engine blows heavy black smoke and loses power climbing hills or under load

Run the smoke diagnosis before pulling injectors. Pop-test each injector and compare against the 248-272 bar (3596.9-3945.0 psi) pressure setting on page 21; replace any that test low or drip. When refitting, torque the injector mounting studs nuts to 10 Nm first stage, then 25 Nm second stage per page 141. Clean or replace injectors clogged from contaminated fuel.
