Part of the Hitachi Repair Manuals.
Four factory PDF volumes, 1515 pages, covering the ZX180W wheeled excavator end to end: a Technical Manual explaining how every system works, Troubleshooting with a full Operational Performance Test section, a Workshop Manual for teardown and assembly, and a separate book of electrical and hydraulic circuit diagrams. Engine coverage is the Isuzu 4BG1, from fuel system to engine electrical.
A wheeled Zaxis that travels fine cold and quits when the oil warms up can eat a week of guessing. This set gives you standard test values to measure against, so you condemn the actual worn pump or travel motor instead of the cheapest suspect.
Everything prints clean. Run off the pages for the job, take them to the bench, and let them get dirty.

Hitachi ZX180W Common Problems This Manual Covers
Hydraulic functions slow down or stall once the oil reaches working temperature
Warm the machine fully, then run the Excavator Test and Component Test and compare cycle times and main relief pressure against the Standard tables. Read the Pump Device chapter in Component Operation before condemning parts, since regulator wear and relief valve drift show the same symptom.
Manual Section: Vol. 2 Troubleshooting - Operational Performance Test p. 370Travel power fades under load after the machine gets hot
Start with the travel checks in the Operational Performance Test to confirm the drop with numbers. Then the Undercarriage section walks the Travel Motor, Transmission, Center Joint, and front and rear axle teardown, so you can trace leakage past the motor instead of guessing at the drivetrain.
Manual Section: Vol. 3 Workshop Manual - Undercarriage p. 1062Overheating and power loss during roading or long dig cycles
The Cooling System chapter under Engine and Accessory covers the water pump, thermostat, and fan service for the Isuzu 4BG1, with removal and inspection steps. Work through it before buying a radiator, because a lazy thermostat and a plugged core read the same on the gauge.
Manual Section: Vol. 3 Workshop Manual - Engine and Accessory p. 1276Intermittent warning lights, derating, or odd behavior pointing at a sensor or connector
Use the Electrical System Inspection procedures to test at the connectors with a meter, checking continuity and voltage the way the factory intended. Pair that with the circuit-diagram volume to trace the harness run, since a chafed wire fakes a dead pressure sensor convincingly.
Manual Section: Vol. 2 Troubleshooting - Troubleshooting p. 501Frequently Asked Questions
Does this manual cover reading and clearing fault codes on the ZX180W monitor?
Yes. Vol. 2 opens with the Monitor Unit section, which explains what the display is telling you and how to work with it. From there, Troubleshooting A and B take each fault to the harness, connector, and component checks that actually find the cause. p. 173
Are torque specs included, or do I need a separate book?
They are in here. The Workshop Manual General section has a Tightening chapter with standard bolt and fitting values. On top of that, individual jobs list their own torque figures in the assembly steps, including swing bearing and cylinder work. p. 1
My hydraulics get slow or stall once the oil is warm. Will this help me find the cause?
That is exactly what the Operational Performance Test section is for. Run the Excavator Test and Component Test with warm oil, then compare your numbers to the Standard tables. The Pump Device and Control Valve chapters explain what a low reading means. Cheaper than swapping a pump on a hunch. p. 173
Is the Isuzu engine covered, or just the excavator side?
The engine is in Vol. 3 under Engine and Accessory. You get general repair instructions plus the lubricating, cooling, and fuel systems, and engine electrical for the 4BG1XABFA. Cooling coverage matters on this machine, since overheating is a known complaint under hard use. p. 1
Are full wiring and hydraulic schematics included?
Vol. 4 is nothing but schematics. The electrical circuit diagram covers the ZAXIS 130W/160W/180W/210W family, plus the overload alarm harness. The ZX180W hydraulic circuit comes in both standard and full option versions, which saves arguing about which valve your machine actually has. p. 1503
Is the whole Hitachi ZX180W set text-searchable?
Most of it. Volumes 1 and 2 and the bulk of the Workshop volume carry a native text layer, so Ctrl+F works there. The Engine and Accessory chapter at the back of the Workshop volume and the 13 circuit-diagram sheets are scanned images — you read those, you do not search them. p. 1276
