The engine is down on power, smokes, or is hard to start.
Run the compression test before you take anything apart. A healthy engine makes 25.5 bar (375 lbf/in2) at a 200 rpm cranking speed, and the variation between cylinders matters as much as the absolute figure. Then check the bore against its 111.778 to 111.803 mm diameter and its 0.025 mm taper and out-of-round repair limits. Confirm rated speed at 2100 rpm and high idle at 2205 rpm before you suspect the fuel system.

Ground drive is hydrostatic and has its own section at pages 591 to 696, separate from the transmission. It covers the pump and drive motors, the charge circuit and the ground drive control, with the pressure test procedure. Test charge pressure first, because a low charge makes the whole drive feel tired without any single component looking wrong.
