The seeding control system is where an air drill gets complicated, and it is where this New Holland P2080, P2085 service manual PDF (OEM ID 47648338) spends much of its 672 pages: CAN bus diagnostics, sensor calibration, and rate ECU fault codes, before covering axles, wheels, metering, and the seeding fan. Wiring schematics trace every harness from power connections through ISOBUS terminals and ECU pinouts, with splice tables to match. Hydraulic schematics map the seeding circuit, fan drive, and frame lift, and the fault code chapters walk each DTC from symptom to repair. Set fan motor case drain back pressure to 170 kPa, torque your scraper bolts to 115 N·m (85 lb ft), and swap opener coulters once they wear from 45.7 cm down to 40.6 cm. A drill parked mid-field stalls on one missing number. This bookmarked, text-searchable PDF rides on whatever screen is in your cab, so the spec is wherever the drill is.

New Holland P2080, P2085 Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland P2080 disk drill opener disks worn small, seed trench shallow, poor penetration in hard dry ground

Measure the opener coulters before blaming down pressure. New coulters run 45.7 cm (18 in) in diameter and 5 mm (0.2 in) thick; replace any disk worn to 40.6 cm (16 in), the limit listed on page 645. Worn-down disks lose penetration in dry ground no matter how you set depth.

Manual Section: Seeding p. 645
Opener disk bearing noisy, drags when spun by hand, wobbles on the row unit

Spin each disk by hand and feel for roughness or drag. The opener bearings are triple-sealed with no grease fitting, so noise means dirt got past the seal; replace the bearing instead of trying to grease it. After the new bearing goes in, reset the scraper and torque its bolts to 115 N·m (85 lb ft), the spec on page 652.

Manual Section: Seeding p. 652
Gauge wheels keep going out of adjustment, seed depth uneven from row to row

Set the disk-to-gauge-wheel gap first; the factory troubleshooting table on page 655 calls for lightly touching to 4 mm (1/8 in), adjusted by adding or removing spacers between the gauge wheel and the gauge arm. Too large a gap plugs the wheel, too little makes the disk interfere. Inadequate down pressure and wet soil build-up cause the same uneven depth, so raise spring pressure or wait for the field to dry before replacing hardware. Check tire pressures too; base tires call for 414 kPa, page 223, and a soft tire shifts depth across the whole drill.

Manual Section: Seeding tool - Troubleshooting p. 655
Meter RPM alarm on the monitor, meter speed erratic at normal seeding rates

Check the displayed meter RPM at your working speed and rate. Keep the meter between 15 - 110 RPM, the operating range on page 624. Running outside that window shows up as skips and surges in the row, so adjust ground speed or the rate setting until the meter lands inside it before tearing anything apart.

Manual Section: Metering System p. 624
Seeding fan loses speed under load, secondary hoses start plugging with product

Check fan speed on the monitor and never run past 5500 RPM, the limit on the troubleshooting chart, page 639. If speed sags under load, test the case drain line against the 170 kPa back pressure spec on page 36. Verify the circuit builds the full 3500 kPa operating pressure, page 109, before condemning the pump and losing a seeding day to it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the Rate ECU on a New Holland P2080 or P2085 drill?

To reset the Rate ECU, you must cycle the system power. If the fault persists, you can select 'UTIL' and then 'RESET' from the main screen, provided that no ground speed is detected. p. 458

What are the torque specifications for the wheel bolts on a P2080 or P2085 drill?

For the base tires on 9.1 m (30 ft) and 12.2 m (40 ft) drills, the wheel bolt torque is 115 N·m (85 lb ft). For fixed tandem and walking tandem configurations, the torque is 170 N·m (125 lb ft). p. 77

What are the replacement specifications for the opener disk on the New Holland P2080, P2085?

The opener disks are supplied with a diameter of 45.7 cm (18 in). You should replace the disk when it is worn down to 40.6 cm (16 in). p. 654

What is the required torque for the subbar and pressure valve block check valve on the New Holland P2080, P2085?

The pilot-to-open poppet type check valve in the subbar and pressure valve block requires a torque of 176 - 190 N·m (130 - 140 lb ft). p. 107

What is the correct tire pressure for the high flotation tires on a 9.1 m (30 ft) New Holland P2080, P2085 drill?

The tire pressure for the high flotation tires on a 9.1 m (30 ft) drill is 414 kPa (60 psi). p. 223
