Part of the New Holland Operator Manuals.
Controls and instruments, field operation, lubrication, troubleshooting and storage run end to end through the 238-page New Holland TL80A, TL90A, TL100A operator manual PDF (OEM 87517742) for these tractors. Maintenance fills a good share of the book, walking you from the 10-hour checks through the 300, 600 and 1800-hour intervals, plus fuse charts and the lubricants and fluids table. Field chapters explain the three-point linkage, PTO, remote auxiliary valves, range and shuttle transmissions, wheel track, tire pressures and liquid ballast. Fill the shared rear axle, transmission, hydraulic lift and PTO system with 49 liters (12.94 gal), and give a new engine oil filter 3/4 of a turn, a full turn at most. Hay is cut, the baler is hitched, and the job stalls on one front tire pressure. That number is in here. Bookmarked chapters and a searchable text layer take you straight to it, so you lose minutes instead of the weather window.

New Holland TL80A, TL90A, TL100A Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland TL80A, TL90A, TL100A starter motor turns slowly or will not work, electrical system dead
Move the gear lever to neutral, since the starter will not work in gear. Clean and tighten loose or corroded terminals, then check that battery charge is at least 12.6 volts and verify electrolyte level and specific gravity (page 206). Electrolyte is sulfuric acid, so keep sparks and flames away (page 164). Charge or replace flat batteries. Disconnect the cables and charge the battery away from the tractor, as page 187 directs.
Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 206Battery charge light stays on with engine running or flashes on the instrument panel
Check engine idle speed first. A low idle keeps the charge light on, so raise it. With the engine stopped (page 153), inspect the alternator belt tensioning device and replace a loose or worn belt. Verify the battery holds at least 12.6 volts per page 206. A flashing light means excessive charge voltage, so have your dealer check the alternator.
Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 206During long field days, hydraulic system not working properly or hydraulic fluid overheating
Park on level ground, stop the engine and, where possible, fully extend the hydraulic cylinders before checking oil level (page 153). Correct a level that is too high or too low. The transmission and hydraulic lift system holds 49 liters, or 55 liters with the expansion tank (page 201). Replace a clogged hydraulic filter and set flow regulation to a lower capacity. If it still fails, contact your dealer.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 207Three-point hitch lift operates slowly or too fast in draft control, or will not lift fully
Adjust the combined draft/position control first, since a wrong setting makes the lift slow in draft control. Check the implement settings too. If the linkage will not lift fully, adjust the link arm top limiter. If lowering stays too slow, or the lift runs too fast in draft control, have the control valve checked per page 207.
Manual Section: Hydraulic Lift and Three Point Linkage Troubleshooting p. 207Remote hydraulics not working or implement hoses will not join properly at the couplers
Connect the hoses correctly, then check oil flow in the half couplers and actuate the control levers. If the problem persists, replace the male couplers. Wrong male couplers will not join, so fit standard ISO 1/2 inch connectors from your dealer per page 207. Reduce the load or use a suitable cylinder if the system is overloaded.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 207Engine overheating during heavy field work, with coolant level dropping in the expansion tank
Stop the engine and let it cool, then open the pressurized cap slowly with a cloth to release pressure (page 27). Top up coolant in the expansion tank, check for leaks and tighten leaking hose connectors. Clean a clogged radiator core, replace a defective cap and check the fan belt tensioning device. Drop a gear or reduce load. A faulty temperature gauge needs your dealer.
Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 205Frequently Asked Questions
What do the warning and error codes mean on a New Holland TL80A, TL90A, or TL100A?
The function monitor displays a fault symbol with an associated four-digit error code when an operating fault occurs. For example, code 2024 indicates 'Clutches not calibrated', while code 5007 indicates 'Power take-off clutch circuit shorted to +12V'. A complete list of these codes and their recovery procedures is provided in the 'Fault Codes Description' tables on pages 88, 89, 90, 103, and 112. p. 88
How do you bleed the hydraulic system on a New Holland TL100A?
Air must be bled from the brake hydraulic system whenever work is performed on it. To do this, clean the area around the bleed screws, fully press the left brake pedal, and loosen the bleed screw (1) by half a turn to allow air and oil to escape. Repeat this process until only oil comes out, then repeat for the right-hand side, as detailed on page 184. p. 184
What are the engine oil and oil filter replacement specs for the New Holland TL80A, TL90A, TL100A?
The engine oil sump requires 8.9 liters (2.35 gallons) without a filter change, or 9.5 liters (2.50 gallons) with a filter change. The recommended product is AMBRA MASTERGOLD oil, meeting NH 330H (SAE 15-40) or NH 324H (SAE 10W-30) specifications. The oil filter should be replaced every 600 hours of operation. p. 201
What is the correct valve clearance for the engine on the New Holland TL80A, TL90A, TL100A tractor?
With the engine cold, the intake valve clearance should be 0.30 to 0.05 mm, and the exhaust valve clearance should be 0.55 to 0.05 mm. These adjustments should be performed by authorized personnel at your local dealer. p. 178
