Part of the Case Repair Manuals.
Case publication 47574272B, issued March 2014, is the factory service manual for the CX35B and CX39B Series 2 mini excavators. It starts with safety rules and torque tables, then covers the Yanmar 3TNV88-PYB engine, the 10-spool control valve, swing, travel, undercarriage, cab and electrics.
The hydraulic section has the full schematic and the schematic piping. With it you can follow a line from the variable displacement pump through the main control valve and central joint, out to travel or an auxiliary circuit. The electrical schematic and the harness and connector pages show the same detail for engine control, starter, alternator and lighting.
You buy it once and keep it. It stays with this machine for every reseal, track job and engine rebuild.

Case CX35B, CX39B Series 2 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Boom settles toward the ground with the lever in neutral
Check the boom lock valve first. The manual describes it as a check valve that stops the boom lowering under its own weight when the boom valve is at neutral. The hydraulic circuit operation pages show where it sits in the circuit. If the valve is fine, move on to the boom cylinder in Work Cylinders.
Manual Section: Hydraulic Systems - General / Pump, Control Valve and Pilot Controls p. 341Engine will not start, or starts and dies, after a filter change or an empty tank
Air in the fuel lines is the usual cause after the tank runs dry or a filter comes off. Open the water separator cock and loosen the air bleeding bolt on the separator. Then follow the manual's bleeding procedure. The fuel tank and injection system are covered in Engine Fuel, Air, Cooling and Lubrication.
Manual Section: Engine and Crankcase - inspection and maintenance p. 75Tracks hanging slack under the track frame
Check the tension before you blame worn parts. The crawler adjuster takes grease through its nipple. Tighten the nipple and feed grease in to bring the tension up. If the tension will not hold, Tracks and Track Suspension covers the tension units, track rollers, driving wheels and the tracks themselves.
Manual Section: Tracks and Track Suspension - Tracks p. 824Horn silent or work light will not come on
Each of these faults has its own troubleshooting chart in Electrical Systems. Use the charts with the electrical schematic and the harness and connector pages to trace the circuit from the battery through the switch to the load. The same section also covers the starter, alternator, battery and lighting.
Manual Section: Electrical Systems - troubleshooting p. 928Frequently Asked Questions
How do I bleed air out of the fuel system after running the tank dry or changing a filter?
Start at the water separator. Open the separator cock, then loosen the air bleeding bolt on the water separator. The manual then gives the rest of the bleeding procedure for the 3TNV88-PYB, so you know which step comes next. p. 75
What is the right way to bleed a boom or arm cylinder after a reseal?
Keep the engine at slow speed and cycle the cylinder 4 to 5 times. Each time, stop the rod about 100 mm short of stroke end. After that, take it to full stroke at low idle. The Work Cylinders section covers the boom, dipper, bucket, swing arm and dozer blade cylinders. p. 711
How do I adjust track tension on the CX35B or CX39B?
Tension is set with grease at the crawler adjuster. Tighten the adjuster's grease nipple, then feed grease in to take up the slack. Tracks and Track Suspension also covers the tension units, track rollers, track frame and driving wheels. p. 824
Does the manual list fault codes for the engine or the machine?
No. This book has no fault code tables. Electrical faults are worked through symptom charts, such as horn does not sound or work light does not turn on. You use those charts with the electrical schematic and the harness and connector pages. p. 928
What compression should a healthy 3TNV88-PYB show?
The spec is 3.33 to 3.53 MPa (483 to 512 psi) at 250 RPM. The engine is a 3-cylinder, 1.642 l water-cooled diesel rated at 21.2 kW at 2400 RPM. The overhaul procedures for heads, pistons, rods and the crankshaft are in Engine Internals. p. 59
