This is the factory workshop manual for the Fendt 700 and 800 Vario COM III range: 712, 714, 716, 718, 818 and 820, built 2007 to 2010, all running the Deutz TCD 2012 L06-4V six cylinder common rail engine with external exhaust gas recirculation. It covers the whole machine group by group: Vario transmission and clutch actuation, engine, front axle and suspension, cab, EPC power lift, air compressor and brake fittings, hydraulics at 200 bar working pressure, and the full electrics section with wiring diagrams and test procedures. You also get the COM III fault code table, calibration procedures, component locations and the special tools list. If you work on these tractors with FENDIAS or SERDIA, this is the book the dealer techs use.

Fendt 712 / 714 / 716 / 718 / 818 / 820 Vario COM III Common Problems This Manual Covers

Engine related fault code stored and the tractor side display only gives a dotted number

Look the code up in the COM III fault code table in Group 0000. The row gives you the wiring diagram sheet in the Group 9000 documents plus the corresponding Deutz SERDIA code, so you test the circuit on the right diagram and then confirm on the engine side with SERDIA.

Manual Section: Tractor (Group 0000), COM III fault-code table, with Electrics (Group 9000) diagrams p. 40
Front axle suspension circuit needs opening but the accumulator reads 200 bar with the engine off

That pressure is retained by design through unlockable check valves, and neither the lock/lower command nor external power on Y013/Y014 will release it. The manual prints this warning in the Tractor group safety instructions, ahead of the front axle work - follow the relief procedure there before cracking any fitting, otherwise stored 200 bar comes out at you.

Manual Section: Tractor (Group 0000), safety instructions / Front axle (Group 3000), suspension p. 13
Fault memory was wiped before diagnosis and the intermittent fault is now untraceable

The manual explicitly warns against deleting codes with the D, B and C keys before the fault is repaired. Wait for the fault to reset, read the stored code, then use the Group 0000 table to trace it through the wiring diagram sheet and SERDIA reference before clearing anything.

Manual Section: Tractor (Group 0000), COM III fault-code table and safety instructions p. 35
EPC rear power lift not responding correctly after control unit or linkage work

The electrohydraulic control EPC section covers the electrohydraulic remote control and controlled power lift step by step, and Group 0000 supplies the calibration procedures with their 4 digit codes so the Cat. 2/3 three point linkage and its 90.8 or 83.4 kN lift work is set up properly after repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I clear the fault memory on a 712/714/716 Vario COM III, and can I just delete the codes?

The manual covers the delete procedure using the D, B and C keys, but it also carries an explicit warning: do not wipe the fault memory before the fault is actually fixed. Delete first and you lose the stored evidence that tells you which circuit was acting up. Diagnose from the COM III fault code table in Group 0000, repair, then clear. p. 35

I have a COM III fault code. How do I get from the number to the actual component?

Fendt codes on these machines are dotted, like 1.2.04, not the E045 style you see quoted online. Each row in the fault code table hands you two things: the wiring diagram sheet number in the Group 9000 documents, and the matching Deutz SERDIA code for engine side faults. So one code walks you from symptom to the right diagram to the engine side diagnostic without guessing. p. 40

The front suspension still shows 200 bar with the engine off. Is something stuck?

No, that is by design and the manual says so. Unlockable check valves hold the accumulator pressure at 200 bar with the engine stopped. The lock and lower commands do nothing to release it, and even feeding external power to solenoids Y013 and Y014 will not bleed it off. You must relieve the pressure manually per the procedure in the Tractor group safety instructions before opening the circuit, or you will get hurt. p. 13

Is the 718 Vario a 700 series or an 800 series machine when it comes to specs?

Treat the 718 as an 800 frame tractor. It shares the 12500 kg permissible gross weight, the 2720 mm wheelbase and the 90.8 kN rear lift capacity with the 818 and 820, not with the 716. Kerb weight is 6985 kg against 6605 kg for the 712/714/716. Ordering parts or checking load limits off 716 figures will steer you wrong. p. 24

Does the manual cover calibration after repairs, and what diagnostics does it expect?

Yes. Group 0000 carries the calibration procedures with their 4 digit calibration codes, and Group 9900 covers FENDIAS, the tractor side diagnostic system. Engine side work on the Deutz common rail runs through SERDIA, and the fault code table cross references the SERDIA codes so the two systems line up. p. 55
