Factory repair manual for the Ford New Holland Genesis 60 series: 8160, 8260, 8360 and 8560. The electrical section is the biggest part of this book by a wide margin, with a dedicated wiring diagrams chapter plus full coverage of the Electronic Management Unit and both the electronic and analog instrument clusters. All three transmissions are here - Range Command, Dual Command and the mechanical box - so you do not need to know your exact build before buying. Hydraulics cover the Electronic Draft Control lift and the mechanical rear lift, closed and open centre remote valves, the variable flow pump and trailer brake valve. Also inside: clutch overhaul, rear axle, brakes, PTO, front axle and FWD, steering and cab work with air conditioning.

Ford 8160-8560 Genesis Common Problems This Manual Covers

Electrical faults that are hard to trace - dead gauges, intermittent circuits, cluster acting up

Work the circuit off the wiring diagrams chapter rather than guessing at connectors. The Electrical System section covers the Electronic Management Unit, the Electronic Instrument Cluster and the analog clusters, so you can test the sender and the gauge side separately before condemning parts.

Manual Section: Electrical System - Wiring diagrams, Electronic Management Unit, instrument clusters p. 223
Engine will not start or cranks slowly

The Electrical System section covers the starting system, charging system and battery in turn, so you can test voltage drop through the cables and solenoid before pulling the starter. Half of these no-crank complaints trace to connections, not the motor itself.

Manual Section: Electrical System - Starting system, Charging system, Battery p. 1039
Hydraulic lift will not raise, or drops under load

The Hydraulic System section gives the circuits for the variable flow pump and fixed displacement gear pumps, plus the lift with Electronic Draft Control. Check the lift cylinder safety valve against its 3040 to 3120 lbf/in2 setting before tearing into the pump.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System - Hydraulic circuits, Variable flow pump, Electronic Draft Control lift p. 515
Transmission shifting faults on Range Command or Dual Command

The Transmissions section covers Range Command, Dual Command and the mechanical box separately, with specifications and the special tools each overhaul needs. That lets you strip and rebuild the clutch packs to spec instead of swapping parts on suspicion.

Manual Section: Transmissions - Range Command, Dual Command, specifications and special tools p. 115

Frequently Asked Questions

Are the wiring diagrams in here?

Yes, and this is the manual's strongest suit. The Electrical System section is the largest in the book and carries a dedicated wiring diagrams chapter, plus service coverage of the Electronic Management Unit, the Electronic Instrument Cluster and the analog cluster variants. If you are chasing a harness or connector fault on one of these tractors, this is the book to have open. p. 263

Does it cover Range Command and Dual Command transmissions?

Yes, both, plus the plain mechanical transmission. Each type gets its own repair coverage with specifications and special tools listed. You do not have to figure out which gearbox your tractor left the factory with before ordering - all three are in the one manual.

What is the hydraulic lift safety valve setting?

The lift cylinder safety valve setting is 3040 to 3120 lbf/in2 (210 to 215 bar). That is the kind of number you need when the lift will not hold a load and you are deciding between a valve problem and a worn pump. The hydraulic section walks through the circuits for both the variable flow pump and the fixed displacement gear pumps. p. 1122

Is the Electronic Draft Control lift covered?

Yes. The hydraulic section covers the lift with Electronic Draft Control as well as the mechanical rear lift, so either build is handled. It also takes in the closed centre and open centre remote control valves, the trailer brake auxiliary valve and the assist ram.

Does the engine section cover a full rebuild?

No, and it is fair to say so up front. The engine coverage here is the overview, turbocharger, air cleaner service, oil feed and return tubes, and the tightening torques for that work - turbo oil feed banjo bolt at 22 to 30 lbf ft, for example. Ford published the engine internals separately, so if you are planning a bottom-end rebuild you will want that book alongside this one.
