Built for the Ford TW5, TW15, TW25 and TW35 and the 8530, 8630, 8730 and 8830 six-cylinder tractors, Ford Service Manual 40000580 (Reprint) holds all six volumes in thirteen parts. The foreword calls them the Ford TW Series and 30 Series. The Ultra-Command powershift, Dana FWD axle and 8530 to 8830 wiring chapters are written for the 30 Series by name.
The book gives the test figures, oil flow diagrams and trouble shooting charts for each part.
Serial numbers and production date codes are in the engine part. Hydraulics change at April 1985 and cabs at November 1985. Check which side of those dates your tractor was built on.

Ford TW5–TW35, 8530–8830 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Low engine oil pressure
Check the engine oil level first and top up. If the level is right, a blocked oil pump sump is the next suspect, so clean the sump screen. If pressure stays low, fit a new oil pressure relief valve. Relief valve pressure is 60-80 lbf/in² (4.14-5.51 bar) at 2200 rev/min.
Manual Section: Engine trouble shooting p. 106Engine overheats
Look for a leaking hose connection and tighten it. Then check fan belt adjustment and re-adjust it. If both are good, renew the thermostat. It should open at 178°F (81°C). Refill to the right capacity for your model: TW-5 or TW-15/25/35.
Manual Section: Engine trouble shooting p. 107Excessive steering effort
A faulty pump relief valve is the first thing the chart points to, so check the system pressure before you strip anything. If pressure will not come up, the pump may be worn and needs inspection and repair. Power steering oil capacity is 6.5 Imp pts.
Manual Section: Steering trouble shooting p. 1101Failure to lift under all conditions (tractors prior to April 1985)
Low hydraulic pump pressure is the first cause listed. Do the system relief valve pressure check: it should read 2500-2600 lbf/in² (173-179 bar). If the pressure is right and the lift still will not raise, the flow control valve may be stuck. Clean it and inspect it.
Manual Section: Hydraulic system trouble shooting, prior to April 1985 p. 970Frequently Asked Questions
Does this manual cover my Ford TW or 8530 to 8830 tractor?
It covers the TW5, TW15, TW25 and TW35 and the 8530, 8630, 8730 and 8830. It is Ford Service Manual 40000580 (Reprint), and the file holds all six volumes. The Ultra-Command powershift, Dana FWD axle and 8530 to 8830 wiring diagram chapters are written for the 30 Series by name. You will find the series identification plate under the radiator filler. p. 1
How much engine oil and coolant does the tractor take?
Engine oil refill is 29.8 Imp pints, 36.0 US pints or 17.0 litres. With new filters it is 33.2 Imp pints, 40.0 US pints or 18.9 litres. Coolant on the TW-5 is 30 Imp pints (36 US pints) (17 litres). The TW-15, TW-25 and TW-35 take 31.6 Imp pints (38 US pints) (18 litres). The thermostat opens at 178°F (81°C). p. 117
What hydraulic and transmission pressures does the manual give?
On tractors built before April 1985, the system relief valve is set at 2500-2600 lbf/in² (173-179 bar). With Dual Power in normal drive, engaged pressure is 185-220 lbf/in² (12.8-15.2 bar). Ultra-Command powershift operating pressure on the 8630, 8730 and 8830 is 240-260 lbf/in² (16.5-17.9 bar). The 8x2 and 16x4 transmissions run 260-300 lbf/in² (17.9-20.7 bar) at 2200 rev/min. p. 979
What PTO speed and engine bolt torque figures does the manual give?
For 540 rev/min at the PTO shaft, run the engine at 1837 rev/min. Cylinder head bolts with the engine cold are 160 lbf.ft (22 kgm) (220 Nm). Main bearing bolts are 120 lbf.ft (14 kgm) (160 Nm). The rear axle ratio is 28.239:1. p. 838
Does the manual include wiring diagrams, hydraulic diagrams and trouble shooting charts?
Yes. The TW wiring diagrams are in Part 3. The 8530, 8630, 8730 and 8830 get their own fuses and wiring diagrams, with harness drawings plus the PTO neutral start and differential lock circuits. Hydraulic oil flow diagrams show neutral, raising and lowering, for tractors built both before and after April 1985. Most parts end with a problem, possible causes and remedy chart. p. 261
