Straight from JLG's own service literature, document 31200151 is the factory book for the G6-42A, G9-43A, and G10-43A telehandlers, and this JLG G6-42A, G9-43A, G10-43A service manual PDF gives you all 244 pages of it. The electrical section alone runs close to a third of the book: complete system schematics, circuit breakdowns for the start and charging circuits, joystick fault codes, and Cummins SAE diagnostic trouble codes. Hydraulic pressure diagnosis traces each circuit from the implement pump through the control valves to the cylinders, with engine coverage for John Deere, Perkins, and Cummins. When you service the boom, torque the compensation cylinder lock bolts to 100-110 lb-ft, and fill the reservoir to 20 gallons on the G6-42A or 23.3 on the 43A machines. Guessing costs real money: a wrong part, a second teardown. Bookmarked and text-indexed, this file travels to whatever jobsite the machine does; grab your copy and keep it there.

JLG G6-42A, G9-43A, G10-43A Common Problems This Manual Covers

JLG G6-42A transmission will not engage reverse, drivetrain response weak after warm-up

Check transmission oil level with the engine idling and oil warm; low or contaminated oil kills clutch pressure first. Drain and refill, then replace the filter and torque it to 20-25 lb-ft (27-34 Nm) as shown on page 106. If reverse still fails, run the clutch pressure checks in the transmission section beginning on page 101.

Manual Section: Transmission p. 106
Parking brake will not hold machine on a grade even with engine off

Verify the manual release screw setting first and adjust it to 1.26 in (32 mm) as detailed on page 99 before condemning the brake. Check brake engagement with the axle troubleshooting charts, then inspect friction surfaces for internal wear or oil contamination if adjustment does not restore holding power on grade.

Manual Section: Axles, Drive Shafts, Wheels and Tires p. 99
Transmission temperature gauge climbs into the red during long loaded pushes uphill

Check oil level with the machine cold and again warm, and confirm the correct fluid type; low oil is the top cause. Shut down before oil passes 248° F (120° C), the overheating limit noted on page 109. Inspect the cooler for plugged fins and flush it if flow is restricted.

Manual Section: Transmission p. 109
Fork tilt, auxiliary hydraulics, and de-clutch functions stop working with low battery voltage fault

Test battery voltage and load-test the battery; it must deliver 1000 cold cranking amps at 0° F (-18° C) per the spec on page 25. Check the 150A alternator power fuse and charging output next. Match the active code against the error code reference beginning before replacing any module.

Manual Section: Electrical System
Boom extends unevenly and extension chains droop or slap inside the boom sections

Inspect chain tension and wear pads using the boom troubleshooting procedures starting on page 68. Check the lift/lower cylinder pin lock bolt while the boom is supported; it takes Loctite 242 and 200-215 lb-ft (271-291 Nm), covered in the boom service procedures on page 43. Replace pads worn past limits.

Manual Section: Boom Troubleshooting p. 68

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the torque specifications for the wheel lug nuts on the JLG telehandler?

The standard wheel lug nut torque for the JLG telehandler is 350-400 lb-ft (475-542 Nm). p. 26

What is the engine oil capacity for a G6-42A John Deere engine before serial number 0160007869?

For a G6-42A John Deere engine before serial number 0160007869, the engine crankcase oil capacity with a filter change is 14.5 quarts (13,7 liters). p. 27

What is the procedure for checking the chain tension on a G6-42A model?

To check chain tension, extend the boom 4 to 5 ft (1,2 to 1,5 m), then fully retract it. Measure dimension 'A' at the boom head, which should be 11.625 to 11.938 in (295,2 to 303,2 mm). p. 58

What is the torque spec for the main control valve mounting bolts on the JLG G6-42A, G9-43A, G10-43A telehandler?

The main control valve is secured to the frame with three bolts, washers, and nuts. While the manual does not provide a specific torque for these mounting bolts, it specifies that the main control valve assembly must be installed onto the frame by aligning the bolts with the holes in the end sections and tightening them. p. 151

What is the torque specification for the transmission-to-engine mounting bolts on the G6-42A?

The eight bolts holding the transmission to the engine should be torqued to 53 lb-ft (72 Nm). p. 105
