This is the factory chassis service manual for the McCormick CX Series tractors: the CX75, CX85, CX95 and CX105. It runs 1,581 pages and is the book the dealer technician works from. It covers the tractor itself, the powershift and forward/reverse transmission, the hydraulics, the steering and front axle, brakes, cab and the electronic controllers, with full wiring and hydraulic schematics and step by step calibration and error code procedures for the hitch and the other controllers. These tractors came with either a four cylinder or a six cylinder engine, and the manual covers both installations. One honest note up front: internal engine teardown and overhaul are not in this volume. The engine section covers removal and refitting and points you to the companion McCormick engine manual for the internal rebuild. Everything else on the machine is here.

McCormick CX75-CX105 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Hydraulic oil turns milky or foamy, runs hot, or the hydraulics are noisy and slow

Work the Hydraulics section. It carries the hydraulic troubleshooting routine with the full schematics, the filter manifold and the main hydraulic pump, so you can trace milky oil to a suction side air leak, a noisy pump to wear or cavitation, and overheating to a restricted return or a worn pump. The book walks the checks in order so you confirm the cause before you open the system.

Manual Section: Hydraulics
A controller is throwing error codes, or the hitch will not calibrate

Go to the Controller Systems section. It gives the calibration sequence, the error code lists and the troubleshooting schematics for the hitch controller, covering tractors both with and without Ride Control. You read the stored code, follow its troubleshooting tree and re-run the calibration, which is the only reliable way to clear an electronic hitch fault rather than guessing at the sensor.

Manual Section: Controller Systems
Powershift or forward and reverse shuttle shifts roughly, slips, or will not engage

Work the Transmission section. It covers the engine clutch, the master and slave cylinder, the powershift and forward/reverse transmission and the ranges, with the operating theory and the service steps for the clutch packs and valves. Pair it with the Controller Systems section so an electronic shift fault is read by error code first, before you split the tractor to reach the gearbox.

Manual Section: Transmission
Hard starting, flat battery, or dead electronics

Start in the Electrical section. It covers battery servicing and testing against the 12 volt negative ground system and the 660 amp cold cranking rating, plus instrument cluster programming, and it carries the full electrical schematics. That lets you load test the battery, trace the charging and starting circuits on the real diagram and fix the fault instead of throwing parts at it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover engine overhaul on the CX Series?

No, and the manual is clear about it. The Engine section covers removing and refitting the engine in the tractor. The internal rebuild, pistons, bearings, injection and the rest, is in the companion McCormick engine manual, and this chassis manual points you to it. What you get here is everything to get the engine out, plus full coverage of the rest of the tractor.

Does it cover both the four cylinder and six cylinder tractors?

Yes. The CX75, CX85, CX95 and CX105 were built with either a four cylinder engine (engine codes AQ, AS and AT) or a six cylinder engine (codes YH, YJ and YK), and the manual covers both installations, including the different engine weights and the matching service data.

Are the wiring and hydraulic diagrams included?

Yes. The Electrical section carries the full electrical schematics, and the Hydraulics section carries the hydraulic troubleshooting schematics along with the filter manifold and main pump coverage. These are the dealer diagrams used to trace a fault to the actual circuit, not simplified drawings.

How do I read and clear controller error codes?

The Controller Systems section is built for that. It lists the calibration procedures, the error codes and the troubleshooting schematics for the hitch controller, split out for tractors with and without Ride Control. You read the stored code, work its troubleshooting tree and re-run the calibration to confirm the fix.
