This is the factory repair manual for the New Holland FR9040, FR9050, FR9060, FR9080 and FR9090 forage harvesters, part number 87725913D. It works through the machine the way New Holland builds it: engine, main gearbox and drive, transmission, four-wheel drive, axles, hydrostatic drive, brakes, hydraulics, steering, cab climate and electrical, then the crop path itself from header attachment through product feeding, chopping and ejection. The hydraulic section names every accumulator and relief valve with its pressure, and it calls out where the FR9040 differs from the rest.

New Holland FR9040-FR9090 Common Problems This Manual Covers

The chopper body will not float, settles hard, or bounces in the field.

Check the accumulator charge, and check which one your machine takes. All models carry a 100 bar accumulator for the chopper body lift, but the second one is 45 bar on every model except the FR9040, which uses 55 bar. A soft or wrongly charged accumulator gives exactly this behaviour long before the lift cylinders or the valve are at fault. The hydraulic section carries the charging procedure and the circuit.

Manual Section: Hydraulic Systems
Spout rotation is slow, or the attachment circuit knocks under shock loads.

Both are protected by valves with stated settings. The spout rotation circuit runs a 160 bar pressure relief valve and the attachment circuit a 220 bar shock valve, so measure against those figures rather than adjusting by feel. If the spout is slow with correct relief pressure, look at the rotation drive and its motor; if the attachment knocks with a correct shock valve, the fault is upstream in the supply.

Manual Section: Hydraulic Systems
Chop quality has fallen off, or the machine takes more power for the same crop.

Work the chopping section before the engine. It covers the cutterhead and knives, the shearbar setting and the sharpening system, whose feed rate is set by an adjustable needle valve restriction, so a sharpening pass that is too fast leaves knives that never reach a proper edge. Check the shearbar clearance to the manual figure, sharpen correctly, then look at the feed rolls and metal detection in the product feeding section.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which harvesters does this manual cover?

The FR9040, FR9050, FR9060, FR9080 and FR9090, under part number 87725913D. Almost every procedure applies across the range, and where a machine differs the manual says so explicitly. The chopper body lift accumulator is the clearest example: 45 bar on every model except the FR9040, which takes 55 bar, alongside a 100 bar accumulator fitted to all of them.

What accumulator pressures should I charge to?

The lateral flotation accumulators are charged to 70 bar (1015 psi) and 100 bar (1450 psi). For the chopper body lift, all models carry a 100 bar (1450 psi) accumulator, plus a 45 bar (653 psi) one on every model except the FR9040, which instead takes a 55 bar (798 psi) unit. Charging the wrong one is a common cause of a chopper body that will not float or settle properly.

What relief pressures are given?

The spout rotation circuit is protected by a 160 bar pressure relief valve and the attachment circuit by a 220 bar shock valve. The hydraulic section also covers the safety and main relief valves in their own chapter, along with the oil coolers, the high-flow ON/OFF valves and the needle valve that sets the knife sharpening restriction.

Is the crop path covered?

Yes, in its own sections in the order the crop travels: attachments and headers at 2672 to 2703, product feeding at 2704 to 2779, chopping at 2780 to 2865 and ejection at 2866 to 2941. That covers the feed rolls and metal detection, the cutterhead and knives with shearbar setting and sharpening, and the blower, spout and its rotation drive.

How big is the manual and can I search it?

It runs to 2953 pages in English and is a searchable, printable PDF. Search the text, print the pages you need for the bench, and keep the rest on a laptop in the workshop.

How will I receive this New Holland FR9040, FR9050, FR9060, FR9080, FR9090?

Immediate download of the complete 2953-page searchable Repair Manual (81 MB). Access it on any device, from a laptop at your desk to a phone in the field.

Are there any print restrictions on this New Holland FR9040, FR9050, FR9060?

Yes, print as many copies as you want, and there are no restrictions. Many mechanics print the section they need and bring it to the shop floor.
