Part of the Yanmar Repair Manuals.
Publication 0AAYV-G00203 is Yanmar's own operation manual for the 12AYM-WGT, 12AYM-WET and 12AYM-WST marine propulsion engines, delivered here as the complete 70 page factory book in PDF, not a rewrite of it.
Inside are the procedures Yanmar wrote for running-in a fresh installation, checking before starting, running under load, stopping, and laying the engine up for long-term storage. The Periodic Maintenance section works through the fuel system, lubricating oil system, cooling water circuits, turbocharger, rubber hoses, control cables and electrical parts, while the troubleshooting charts walk starting failure, speed drop, oil pressure faults, overheating and sudden shutdown back to their causes.
A guessed valve lash or belt tension figure is how a healthy engine gets hurt. This manual prints the real numbers, 0.3 mm intake and 0.5 mm exhaust clearance among them, so everything goes back together on Yanmar's settings and the engine runs.

Yanmar 12AYM Series Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine cranks but will not start
Air in the fuel lines, clogged filters or poor fuel quality are the usual suspects on a diesel that spins without firing. The Starting Failure chart traces each symptom to its countermeasure so you fix the cause instead of cranking the batteries flat.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting and Countermeasures p. 62Coolant temperature climbs under load
A worn seawater pump impeller or fouled cooling passages slowly starve the heat exchange until the alarm sounds. The manual covers both the seawater and coolant sides and schedules impeller replacement every year, before it sheds vanes into the circuit.
Manual Section: Periodic Maintenance p. 48Fuel filters clogging ahead of schedule
Water and sediment in the fuel load up the filter and water separator elements and show up first as power loss. Yanmar's replacement interval is every 500 hours, with the procedure in the Fuel System pages.
Manual Section: Periodic Maintenance p. 48Starting air pressure too low
The manual lists air tank pressure of 2.45 MPa to 2.94 MPa among the checks before starting. Skip that check and a marginal tank leaves you with an engine that will not turn over when you need it.
Manual Section: Running-In p. 28Oil pressure outside the specified range
Low or erratic lubricating oil pressure is a bearing killer if you run on through it. A dedicated troubleshooting chart, Lubricating Oil Pressure Out of the Specified Pressure, steps through the causes and countermeasures.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting and Countermeasures p. 62Alternator or instrument panel faults
Dead gauges, charging failures and sensor faults usually come down to wiring, and chasing them without diagrams is guesswork. The manual's diagrams cover wire color coding plus the starter switch, instrument panel, battery, alternator and sensor circuits.
Manual Section: Wiring Diagrams p. 66Valve lash drifted from spec
Clearance that closes up costs compression and burns valves; clearance that opens up hammers the valvetrain. The adjustment procedure with the factory settings, 0.3 mm intake and 0.5 mm exhaust, is in the maintenance section.
Manual Section: Periodic Maintenance p. 48Frequently Asked Questions
Which Yanmar engines does this manual cover?
It covers the Yanmar 12AYM-WGT, 12AYM-WET and 12AYM-WST marine propulsion engines. It is Yanmar publication 0AAYV-G00203, the factory operation manual for all three models in one 70 page document.
Does it help diagnose starting and overheating problems?
Yes. The Troubleshooting and Countermeasures section has charts for starting failure, spontaneous speed drop, lubricating oil pressure out of the specified range, coolant temperature too high, and sudden engine stops, each traced back to causes and fixes. p. 62
Are wiring diagrams included?
Yes. The Wiring Diagrams section covers wire color coding along with the starter switch, instrument panel, battery, alternator and sensor circuits. p. 66
Does it give maintenance intervals and adjustment specs?
Yes. The Periodic Maintenance section sets the schedule: fuel filter and water separator elements every 500 hours, seawater pump impeller every year, alternator belt deflection of 3.9 mm at 5 to 6 N load, and valve clearance of 0.3 mm intake and 0.5 mm exhaust. p. 48
