Test battery voltage under load before condemning the starter. Check valve clearance with the engine cold and set both intake and exhaust to 0.15 mm (0.006 in) using the specifications on page 31. Tight valves burn seats and rob compression. Test the injection nozzles and verify injection pump timing next, and swap fuel filters if the machine has been sitting on stale fuel.
