Part of the Case Repair Manuals.
Factory Case manual 47421773 covers the 586H and 588H Tier 4 rough terrain forklifts from PIN NCC570000, in both 2WD and 4WD versions. It works through the 3.4 liter F5C/F5H common rail engine, cooled EGR and DPF, Power Shuttle transmission, axles, brakes, hydraulics, steering, the telescopic single arm and the electrical schematic frames.
A guessed torque or pressure figure is how hubs walk off and brakes let go. If you set the park brake by feel or snug the wheel nuts until they seem tight, you only learn you were wrong once the machine is loaded. This book gives the real figures: 305 N·m on the front wheel nuts and 13.5 - 15.5 bar at the park brake check port.
Before you order anything, check your PIN against the start of this book. When the book matches the machine, the right part shows up the first time.

Case 586H, 588H Common Problems This Manual Covers
Machine will not move in forward or reverse
Check the transmission oil level first, then the drive shaft and universal joints. Raise the wheels and see whether the shaft turns in forward and reverse. If it doesn't, check the electrical connections, power to the clutch solenoids and the fuse. Then put gauges on the transmission pump pressure and flow, converter in pressure and regulated clutch pressure at the test port. The manual lists regulated clutch pressure as 1103 - 1303 kPa (160 - 189 psi).
Manual Section: Power Shuttle transmission [21.112] - Testing - Machine Will Not Move p. 249Machine will not go into 4WD
Check the front universal joint and drive shaft, then confirm the front drive shaft actually turns. Check the 4WD solenoid electrical connections, the 4WD rocker switch and the fuse before you condemn the solenoid. Keep the logic in mind while testing: 4WD engages when power is removed from the solenoid, not when it is applied.
Manual Section: Power Shuttle transmission [21.112] - Testing - Will Not Go Into 4WD p. 250Transmission oil is running too hot
Check the oil level and clean the outside of the oil cooler. Then gauge converter in pressure, converter out pressure and lube pressure. High converter pressure with low lube pressure points to a restricted cooler. The cooler cannot be flushed, so it has to be replaced. Don't waste a day trying to flush it.
Manual Section: Power Shuttle transmission [21.112] - Testing - Transmission Oil is Too Hot p. 252Fault code 1001, engine air filter blocked
Note the codes, clear them and run the machine again. Inspect or replace the air filter. Check the instrument cluster and filter switch connectors and the harness between them. Disconnect the switch wire and see whether the code goes away. If it stays, check that circuit for a short to ground.

Which engine is in the Case 586H and 588H rough terrain forklift?
The Tier 4 586H and 588H both run the 3.4 liter F5C/F5H engine with common rail fuel injection. For Tier 4a it uses a diesel oxidation catalyst and a diesel particulate filter (DPF), plus cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR). The manual does not print an engine power rating, so you won't find a horsepower figure in it. p. 119
How much engine oil does the 586H / 588H take and which grade?
It takes 8.00 l (8.45 US qt) with a filter change. Case specifies TUTELA UNITEK CJ-4 SAE 10W-40, rated API CJ-4. The manual also has a CJ-4 viscosity chart for Tier 4 F5H engines, so you can pick the grade for your ambient temperature. p. 31
What are the hydraulic and transmission fluid capacities of the 586H / 588H?
The hydraulic system takes 68.1 l (72.0 US qt) total of CASE AKCELA HY-TRAN ULTRA. The Power Shuttle transmission holds 18.5 l (19.5 US qt) on 2WD and 20.8 l (22.0 US qt) on 4WD. The front drive axle differential takes 14.4 l (15.2 US qt). On 4WD, the rear steer axle differential takes 5.5 l (5.8 US qt) and each planetary hub takes 0.7 l (0.7 US qt). p. 31
What is the wheel nut torque on the Case 586H and 588H?
Front wheel mounting nuts are torqued to 305 N·m (225.0 lb ft), in sequence and in stages. Rear wheels on 4WD machines get 251 N·m (185.1 lb ft). Check the torque again after the first hours of operation on a new machine, or any time a wheel has been off. p. 683
How often does the DPF need service on the 586H / 588H?
Day to day, the engine control unit triggers regeneration whenever exhaust restriction reaches its preselected levels. At approximately 3000 hours the DPF has to be remanufactured to clear out the built up particles. p. 119
