Part of the Case Repair Manuals.
Covers the Case 1450B and 1455B crawlers in loader and dozer form, both powered by the 504BDT turbocharged diesel. It is the factory service manual, form 9-67890, with sections Case Corporation issued from 1980 to 1990.
Tracks that won't bleed down and lift circuits that go soft while everything else works eat whole days when you guess. The book covers the engine from tune-up to block reconditioning, the Bosch pumps and Roosa Master injectors, and the transmission flowmeter tests. It also has the relief valve checks, the chassis and ROPS cab wiring diagrams, and the hydraulic diagrams for the loader and blades.
Keep it on the bench, in the service truck or behind the seat. The torque and capacity figures stay with you wherever the machine quit.

Case 1450B, 1455B Common Problems This Manual Covers
Bad performance in a single hydraulic circuit
Look for worn cylinder packing, a worn spool or spool bore, or leakage through the load check valve. Also check the secondary relief valve, if used, for leakage or a low setting. To test a lift cylinder, disconnect the tube to the rod end and plug the tube. Run the engine at full throttle, hold the lever in Raise and watch for leakage. Constant flow from the cylinder means the packing is damaged and needs repair.
Manual Section: General Hydraulic System Information (8002) - Troubleshooting, Bad Performance in a Single Circuit p. 1088An oil sample shows the hydraulic oil is dirty
If a sample comes back dirty, the manual has you clean the whole hydraulic system. Lower every hydraulically controlled attachment to the floor, stop the engine and engage the parking brake. Plan for about 17.5 U.S. gallons (66 litres) of oil in the reservoir. When you reassemble, install the suction screen in the reservoir and fit a new element.
Manual Section: General Hydraulic System Information (8002) - Cleaning the Hydraulic System p. 1086Engine overheats
Start with the fan belt. Check the tension, and look for oil on the belt or bad wear. Check the coolant level and clean the radiator fins so air can get through. To check the water pump, remove the radiator cap and watch whether the coolant moves, then look for leaks around the pump. If those all check out, run a compression test for a blown head gasket.
Manual Section: Engine Diagnosis (2001) - Engine Overheats p. 45Cab air conditioning gives no cooling
First see whether the compressor runs. If it does, do the mechanical compressor check. If it doesn't, do the blower and compressor clutch check. Refrigerant problems go to the visual and leak check. Internal system problems go to pressure testing, so you stop swapping parts blind.

What engine is in the Case 1450B and 1455B crawlers?
Both run the Case 504 BDT diesel. It is a 6 cylinder, 4 stroke cycle, valve-in-head, turbocharged engine. Displacement is 504 cubic inches (8 259 cm³) and the compression ratio is 15.8 to 1. Rated speed is 2100 RPM, and idle should sit between 725 and 775 RPM. p. 4
How much engine oil does the Case 1450B take?
The answer depends on the serial number. Before PIN 8382259, the crankcase takes 17 quarts (16 litres) with a filter change. PIN 8382259 and after takes 28 quarts (26.5 litres). Case calls for Case Enginegard Oil. Read the PIN plate before you start pouring. p. 24
How do I check and adjust track tension on a Case 1450B?
Stand on the track between the carrier roller and the idler to push it to maximum deflection. Lay a straightedge across the track plates and measure the sag. You want 1 to 1-1/2 inch (25 - 38 mm). To tighten, pump grease into the track adjuster. To loosen, let grease flow out of the valve until the deflection is right. Then torque the valve to 44 - 55 pound-feet (61 - 74 N m) and put the plug or cap back in. p. 564
What is the track shoe bolt torque on the Case 1450B?
Track shoe bolts get 400 - 470 pound-feet (540 - 635 N m). On a new machine, the maintenance chart has you retighten them after the first 20 hours of operation. p. 25
What is the main relief valve pressure on the Case 1450B dozer and loader?
The dozer main relief is 1750 - 1850 psi (12 065 - 12 755 kPa). The loader main relief is 2450 - 2550 psi (16 892 - 17 591 kPa). Both figures are specified at full throttle, so bring the engine up to full throttle before you read the gauge. Check which machine you have first, because the two settings are far apart. p. 1077
