Need the factory numbers for your Case 170B? This 577-page Case 170B Service Manual PDF (OEM #8-44600) breaks down the excavator front to back: the complete Deutz engine workshop section, fuel injection pump and turbochargers, track and suspension, final drives, and the full hydraulic system from main pump to swing motor. You get factory wiring schematics for chasing electrical faults, fold-out hydraulic and electrical schematics in the rear pocket, plus troubleshooting charts for turbochargers, tracks, and hydraulics. Torque tables run from M4 fasteners on up: pull M10 grade 8.8 bolts to 38-45 pound-feet, and set 17 mm hydraulic unions at 40 pound-feet (55 N m). No more chasing wiring faults with a multimeter and a prayer. Bookmarked PDF opens on any device; grab your tablet, walk to the machine, and start wrenching.

Case 170B Common Problems This Manual Covers

Oil weeping at hose fittings and cylinder rod seals, fresh drips under the machine overnight

Wipe everything dry, run the machine, and trace each leak to its source before pulling parts. Replace cracked hoses and cut O-rings instead of overtightening: 13 mm unions take 22 pound-feet (30 N m) and 17 mm unions 40 pound-feet (55 N m), per the chart on page 9. Recheck the reservoir level after repairs.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the torque specifications for the track shoe mounting bolts?

The track shoe mounting bolts must be tightened to a torque of 400 pound-feet (542 N m, 55 kg/m). p. 320

How do you fix case 170B hydraulic pump whining and cavitating, boom and arm slow in every circuit?

Check the reservoir oil level and inspect the suction line for air leaks before condemning the pump. Warm the oil to 125°F (50°C), the test temperature given on page 432, then work the all-circuits troubleshooting in the Hydraulics section from page 383. After any pump work, bleed at the air removal screw, torqued to 72 pound-inch (8 N m). p. 383

How do you fix hydraulic oil running hot after an hour of digging, functions getting slow and spongy?

Clean the hydraulic cooler fins with compressed air before anything else; a plugged cooler is the usual cause on dirty sites. Verify the oil level, then confirm the system settles near its normal 125°F (50°C) operating temperature listed on page 432. If it still runs hot, follow the oil overheating steps in the Hydraulics section from page 383. p. 383

How do you fix tracks keep coming loose and derailing, sprocket teeth and pins wearing out early?

Adjust track tension using the procedure in the Track and Suspension section beginning on page 311, then measure pin and bushing wear before ordering chains. Inspect idlers and rollers on the same walkaround; a bad idler eats new chain fast. Torque any grade 8.8 hardware you disturb to the value in the torque chart in the General section. from the chart on page 8. p. 311

What do I get after purchasing this Case 170B manual?

One scanned PDF covering 577 pages, delivered instantly. No disc, no shipping, no waiting on the post.
