Case 6-830 diesel cranks but will not fire after fuel filter change, no smoke at exhaust
Bleed the fuel system before you chase anything else. Verify the stop control is out of the stop position, then crack the filter bleed screws and work the hand primer until solid fuel flows. Confirm supply pressure holds 140 to 172 kPa as listed on page 198, and change the filter element every 500 hours.

Find the dead hole first. Crack each injector line nut at the pump one at a time and listen for a change in note; the cylinder that stays flat owns the bad nozzle. Pop test that injector against 20 464 to 21 263 kPa for new units on page 239. Torque retaining bolts to 24 Nm.

Check injection pump timing before you pull anything apart. Verify oil level against the 22.0 L capacity for the 6-830 on page 133, then follow the pump timing procedure at pages 227 through 235 with the gear marks aligned to spec.

Test the belt before blaming the head gasket. Measure spring tension at the 35 degree angle; minimum is 24 Nm per page 152, and a slipping belt starves the water pump long before the gauge moves. Then pressure test the cap and inspect the head gasket sealing surface.

Measure the head before you bolt it back down. Minimum height is 115.75 mm with a 1.00 mm total machining limit on page 39, and a head cut past that will not seal at any torque. Match gasket thickness to the 0.27 mm or 0.48 mm options, then torque short bolts to 70 Nm plus 90 degrees in sequence.
