Case 2555 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Gear oil leaking from the final drive cover, drips down the inside of the tire

Clean the housing so you can trace the leak path; a crushed gasket or warped cover is the usual suspect after axle work. Drain the final drive, replace the gasket, and torque the cover bolts evenly in a cross pattern to 164 to 185 lb ft per page 292. Refill, run it briefly, and recheck for seepage.

Manual Section: Power Train p. 292
Front wheel feels loose after transport, lug bolts backing off and rim holes wallowing out

Check every wheel mounting bolt and retorque to 140 to 160 lb ft per page 131. Inspect the bolt holes in the rim; if they are wallowed out egg shaped, replace the rim because torque alone will not hold it. Recheck torque after the first hour of operation and again after a full day.

Manual Section: Steering p. 131

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the torque spec for 1/2 inch Grade 5 bolts, nuts, and studs on the Case 2555 Cotton Picker?

For Grade 5 bolts, nuts, and studs with a 1/2 inch size, the torque specification is 80 to 96 pound-feet (109 to 130 Newton-metres). p. 5

How do you fix case 2555 front fan chokes and loses suction, cotton stalls in the air ducts before the basket?

Open the front and rear service doors and clean packed lint out of the fan housing and lower outer duct. Spin the fan by hand and measure blade to side sheet baffle clearance against the 0.020 inch (0.5 mm) minimum on page 592. Replace bent blades or a worn front fan shaft before the fan seizes. p. 592

How do you fix front fan vibrates hard at operating speed, shaking felt through the whole frame?

Remove the fan access covers and scrape all lint off the blades; buildup throws the balance off fast. Torque the pulley retaining nut to 167 to 187 lb ft (226 to 253 Nm) as specified on page 592. Inspect the front fan shaft, shaft spacer, and bearings for play and replace worn parts as a set. p. 592

How do you fix cab air conditioner blows warm air in the field, compressor clutch cycles on and off rapidly?

Check the compressor clutch for engagement and blow lint out of the condenser coil from the inside out. Hook up a gauge set and run the visual and operating checks that start on page 481. If the charge is low, recover it, repair the leak, evacuate, and recharge with 4.41 lbs of refrigerant listed on page 12. p. 481
