Case 430–440 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Case 430 skid steer lift arms drooping about one inch per fifteen minutes when the machine is off

Inspect loader lift cylinder piston seals. Torque the piston bolt to 365 to 460 Nm (270 to 340 pound-feet) as instructed on page 683. If seals leak, replace them and bleed the system. Operate the controls to completely extend and retract the cylinders to remove trapped air.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 683
Machine completely immobile and will not move forward or reverse when drive controls are fully engaged

Inspect the hydrostatic drive motor mounting bolts and torque them to 122 Nm plus an additional 60 degrees. Disengage the park brake and move the machine to remove any air from the hydrostatic system as shown on page 430. Verify the brake solenoid wiring harness is fully connected.

Manual Section: Hydrostatic System Troubleshooting p. 430
Intermittent electrical failure with starter motor clicking or failing to turn over in cold weather

Test the main power and start interlock relays. Replace the main power relay if defective, referencing page 99. Bench test the starter motor and verify the no-load test rating meets the 2.7 KW specification found on page 315. Clean all instrument cluster pin connections to prevent voltage drops.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting p. 315
Loader functions feeling weak or completely failing to lift heavy loads during normal daily operation

Measure the loader control valve main relief pressure. Verify the pressure reads 20,700 ± 345 kPa as listed on page 587. If the circuit relief valves fail to meet this specification, replace them immediately. These valves are not adjustable and require full replacement if the indication is incorrect.
