This is the full 3501-page factory repair manual for the Case N Series loader backhoes: 580N, 580SN, 580SN-WT, and 590SN, built 2008 to 2014. These machines run the same 99 mm x 110 mm common-rail diesel in three power flavors: 63 kW (85 hp) in the 580N, 72 kW (97 hp) in the 580SN and SN-WT, 82 kW (110 hp) in the 590SN, and the manual covers all four side by side. It is organized by Case section codes, Engine 10 through Electrical 55, plus loader (82), backhoe boom and dipper (84), and cab (90). At the back sit the schematic index, the full electrical schematic frames, and the hydraulic schematic. This is the book a Case dealer tech works from, not an operator pamphlet.

Case 580N-590SN Common Problems This Manual Covers

An ECU fault code stays active even after battery voltage and supply circuits check out good.

The Electrical systems section (55) walks the harness test between the ECU connector pins and the module, checking continuity and intermittent breaks at connector B before you condemn the ECU itself. Most of these turn out to be a chafed harness or a backed-out pin, not a dead computer.

Manual Section: Electrical systems (Section 55) p. 1830
Hydraulic fluid level keeps dropping but a visual walk-around finds no wet spots.

The Hydraulic systems section (35) covers leak tracing with fluorescent dye and a black light for seepage that hides in sumps and behind seals where a flashlight inspection misses it. It also gives the seal replacement procedures for whatever component the dye trail leads you to.

Manual Section: Hydraulic systems (Section 35) p. 1204
The timing lock pin will not seat when trying to lock the engine at No. 1 TDC.

The Engine section (10) gives the correct rotation and lock-pin procedure for finding true No. 1 TDC, plus the checks that follow when the pin still refuses to seat, which points to timing component wear inside. Do not force the pin and do not guess timing on a common-rail engine.

Manual Section: Engine (Section 10) p. 46
Intermittent electrical gremlins: gauges drop out, a work light circuit dies, transmission warning flickers.

Start at the schematics index and pull the frame for the affected circuit; the the full electrical schematic frames give wire numbers, connectors, and splices so you can test each segment instead of shotgunning parts. Pair it with the connector procedures in section 55.

Manual Section: Electrical Schematic p. 3493

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this cover my exact model, or do I need a separate book for the 590SN?

One manual, all four machines. Where they differ, the manual splits them out: the 580N is rated 63 kW (85 hp) gross at 2200 RPM, the 580SN and 580SN-WT run 72 kW (97 hp), and the 590SN makes 82 kW (110 hp) with 460 N·m of peak torque at 1400 RPM. Shared procedures are written once, model-specific specs and steps are flagged per model.

My dash is showing fault codes. Will this manual help me clear an ECU error on a 580SN?

Yes, and honestly this is where the book earns its money. These are Tier 3 electronic machines with a common-rail ECU, and the Electrical systems section (55) walks fault codes from symptom to cause: voltage checks, harness and connector pinout testing at the ECU, and what to do when a code stays active after the voltage checks pass, which usually means wiring to the ECU connector or the module itself. You fix the cause instead of just clearing the light and watching it come back.

Are full wiring diagrams included, or just a couple of sample circuits?

Full diagrams. The manual ends with a schematics index and the full electrical schematic frames covering the whole machine, plus the complete hydraulic schematic. Chasing an intermittent short or a dead circuit without these is guesswork; with them you follow the wire number frame by frame. p. 3493

Does it cover the backhoe and loader ends, or just the engine and drivetrain?

The whole machine. Front loader and bucket are section 82, backhoe booms, dippers, and buckets are section 84, and the hydraulic systems section (35) covers the pump, valves, and cylinders that drive both ends. Axles, brakes, steering, transmission, and cab climate control each get their own section too.

Is this the emissions-era machine with DEF? I do not want to deal with that.

No DEF on these. The 2008 to 2014 N Series is Tier 3: direct high-pressure common-rail injection with an ECU, but no SCR, no DEF tank, no regen cycles. You get electronic diagnostics without the aftertreatment headaches. Basic fuel specs are in the book too, like the 159 L (42 US gal) tank and No. 2 diesel requirements down to a -26 °C pour point.
