The Case IH LB323-LB433 series service manual PDF, OEM 87491708, takes all four big baler models apart across 910 pages, from PTO power in and the process drive back to the knotter drive gearbox. Wiring diagrams trace the electrical and electronic systems behind the fault code listings, while hydraulic schematics map the pickup lift and the blade control circuit down to individual valves. Procedures run the whole crop path: stuffer brake adjustment, packer fork bearings, rotor slip clutch, plunger and density system, knotter frame overhaul. Set pickup tine spacing at 66 mm, and verify the blade control circuit tops out at 190 bar (2755 psi) before you condemn the knives. When the baler stops tying in the middle of a field, nobody is leaning on the fender with the answer; it is you and the machine. Bookmarks and a live text layer put the knotter section on your screen in seconds, while the windrow is still dry.

Case IH LB323, LB333, LB423, LB433 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Case IH LB series big baler pickup missing crop, bent and broken pickup tines

Block the pickup and shut the tractor off before crawling under. Replace bent or broken tines and verify tine spacing at 66 mm (2-5/8 in), spec on page 499. Torque new tooth locknuts to 15 Nm and guard hardware to 22 Nm, listed on page 537. Spin the pickup by hand and check for tine strike before reconnecting the PTO shaft.

Manual Section: Picking Picking Up p. 499
Knots hanging on billhook, twine breaking at the knot, bales falling apart in the field

Adjust the billhook cam spring first: turn the adjusting nut until a 40-90 Nm (9-20 lb ft) pull on the billhook tongue lifts it 3 mm (0.125 in), procedure on page 843. Verify the stripper arm flange travels 15 mm beyond the billhook, shown on page 844, then replace any chipped billhook or bent knife arm before tying another bale.

Manual Section: Knotter System - Check p. 843
Stuffer drive shearbolt shears repeatedly in heavy windrows, bales coming out mis-shaped

Check the shearbolt grade before anything else; a harder bolt only hides the real problem. Clear wads from the precompression chamber and watch that the stuffer trips at proper chamber fill. Drain and refill the stuffer drive gearbox with 3.75 L of oil, capacity on page 579, then inspect the tripping system linkage for wear starting on page 643.

Manual Section: Stuffer Troubleshooting
Crop cutter knives won't stay engaged, chopped bales full of long uncut stalks

Test the blade control circuit with a pressure gauge; it must build 190 bar (2755 psi) to hold the knives up in the crop flow, spec on page 677. Pull the knife drawer, replace dull or cracked knives, and check knife distance at 39 mm before you head back to the field. Bleed the hydraulic cylinders after reassembly.

Manual Section: Chopping Crop Cutter p. 677
Excessive play in packer fork, feeder slip clutch slipping under heavy crop load

Measure packer fork bearing clearance with a dial indicator; anything over 0.5 mm calls for new bearings, spec on page 571. Follow the packer fork bearing replacement procedure starting on page 609, then check the slip clutch friction discs for glazing and grease the packer drive before the next cutting so the feeder holds in heavy hay.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the torque specs for the main gearbox crank tightening screws on a Case IH LB323, LB333, LB423, LB433 baler?

For the 4-knotter model, the crank tightening screws must be torqued to 785 - 833 Nm (579 - 615 lb ft). For the 6-knotter model, the torque specification is 735 - 784 Nm (542 - 578 lb ft). p. 96

What is the correct procedure for bleeding the hydraulic bale density system?

To bleed the system, run the baler with the monitor ON in manual operating mode at 50 bar (725 psi). Disconnect the hydraulic hose elbow at the cylinder port, then use the monitor's diagnostic output to switch the valve ON and OFF until the hydraulic hoses are filled with oil and free of air bubbles. p. 70

What is the required torque for the plunger horizontal bearings on the Case IH LB323, LB333, LB423, LB433 big baler?

The plunger horizontal bearings for both 4-knotter and 6-knotter models should be torqued to 200 Nm (147 lb ft). p. 89

What is the oil capacity for the stuffer gearbox on the Case IH LB323, LB333, LB423, LB433 big baler?

The stuffer gearbox has an oil capacity of 3.75 L (1 US gal). p. 123

How often should the knotter frame preload be checked?

The knotter frame preload must be checked initially after the first 400 bales, and then every 2,000 bales. p. 57

What do I get after purchasing this Case IH LB323–LB433 Series manual?

A single searchable PDF file of 910 pages, downloadable right after payment. Nothing ships, nothing waits in the mail.
