Draft control trips up more TW operators than any other system, and it gets a proper explanation in this Ford TW-10, TW-20, TW-30 operator manual PDF, the 120 page factory book issued under Ford publication 42001031. Operating procedures fill nearly half of those pages: starting and stopping, hydraulic lift and remote valve operation, PTO engagement, tread settings, ballasting, and tire inflation. A lubrication and maintenance chart opens a section running about a quarter of the book, backed by service intervals, fuel storage rules, and towing and storage procedures. Torque 8 bolt front wheels to 110-130 lbs. ft. after any tread change, and expect a nominal 2500 psi (172.4 bar) from the hydraulic system. Resetting wheel tread the night before planting is miserable work without the stop lug positions in front of you. Bookmarks and a live text layer put your section two clicks away; download it and see.

Ford TW-10, TW-20, TW-30 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Ford TW-10 hydraulic lift won't raise implement, or lift is weak and drops intermittently
Check the rear axle oil level first; a low reservoir starves the pump and shows up as weak, jerky lift. Verify the selector lever is set for position or draft control as shown on page 41, and open the flow control knob. If lift stays weak below the nominal 2500 psi (172.4 bar), run the troubleshooting chart on page 104.
Manual Section: Operating the Hydraulic Lift System p. 41Engine cranks slowly or starter will not turn over on cold mornings
Check battery electrolyte level and clean corrosion off both terminal posts before condemning the starter. Test the battery; these tractors carry a 128 amp hour battery, and a weak one drags cranking speed down fast in cold weather. Follow the starter and starting checks on page 104, then have the charging circuit tested if the battery keeps going flat.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting p. 104Rear wheels wobble or shift on the rims after changing tread width
Inspect the disc-to-rim clamps whenever a wheel walks on the rim. Reseat each clamp on both ramps, then tighten the bolts alternately in a star pattern in 50 lbs. ft. (68 Nm) steps to the 225-275 lbs. ft. (305-373 Nm) figure on page 60. Recheck torque after the first hour of loaded field work.
Manual Section: Rear Wheel Tread Settings p. 60Front end shimmy or loose feel in the steering at road speed
Check the front axle spindle nuts first; they loosen with loader work and rough ground. Torque them to 360-440 lbs. ft. (488-595 Nm) as part of the annual service on page 96. While you are under there, check the front wheel bolts: 110-130 lbs. ft. for 8 bolt wheels, 75-90 lbs. ft. for 6 bolt wheels, per page 56.
Manual Section: Lubrication and Maintenance p. 96Frequently Asked Questions
What are the torque specifications for the front axle section adjusting bolts on a Ford TW-10, TW-20, TW-30 tractor?
For the standard front axle, the adjusting bolts should be tightened to 130-160 lbs. ft. (175-215 Nm). For the heavy-duty front axle, the torque specification is 360-400 lbs. ft. (486-540 Nm). p. 54
What is the procedure for bleeding the fuel injectors?
To bleed the fuel injectors, open the throttle fully, push in the engine stop control, and depress the excess fuel button. Crank the engine until air-free fuel flows from the injector fuel lines, then tighten the fuel line nuts and start the engine. p. 92
What is the correct fan belt tension for the tractor?
Fan belt tension is correct when the belt deflects 5/8-7/8 inch (16-22 mm) with the application of 25 lbs. (11.5 kg) of pressure. p. 89
What is the engine oil capacity for the TW-10, TW-20, and TW-30 models?
The engine oil capacity for all three models (TW-10, TW-20, and TW-30) is 18.0 U.S. quarts (14.9 Imp. qts.) without the filter, and 20.0 U.S. quarts (16.6 Imp. qts.) with the filter. p. 112
What are the intake and exhaust valve clearance specifications for the Ford TW-10, TW-20, TW-30?
The intake valve clearance is .014-.016 inch (0.36-0.41 mm), and the exhaust valve clearance is .017-.019 inch (0.43-0.48 mm). p. 109
