New Holland LM1340–LM1745 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland LM1340 telehandler cranks but won't start, no fuel at injectors after filter change

Check fuel level and drain water from the fuel filter before condemning the pump. Bleed air from the lines, then work through the engine troubleshooting procedures starting on page 64. If injectors test below the 245 bar opening pressure listed on page 46, service or replace them.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting p. 64
Powershift transmission slips under load, clutch pressure drops below spec when oil warms up

Verify oil level first, then tee a gauge into the clutch pressure port. Compare against the specs on page 115: minimum system pressure is 13 bar, and an activated clutch should hold 16 to 19 bar. Anything lower points to a stuck regulating valve, worn charging pump, or leaking sealing rings.

Manual Section: Powershift Gearbox Troubleshooting p. 115
Transmission oil overheats after an hour of loader work, converter gets noisy under load

Check the oil level and clean the transmission oil cooler fins before pulling anything apart. Test cooler inlet pressure at 2000 rpm; page 116 calls for 2 to 7 bar through the cooler circuit. Low flow with normal system pressure means a restricted cooler or lines, so flush the circuit or replace the cooler.

Manual Section: Powershift Gearbox Troubleshooting p. 116
Engine turns over slowly in cold weather, starter drags even with a charged battery

Test battery voltage under load before blaming the starter. Clean and tighten the ground straps, then check the cranking circuit using the general fault finding steps beginning on page 338. If the 3.1 kW starter motor spec on page 37 can't be met on a bench test, replace it and torque the securing screws to 55 Nm per page 77.

Manual Section: Electrical System General Fault Finding p. 338
Boom lift and telescope functions slow and weak, hydraulic pump whines at full extension

Check hydraulic oil level first; the system holds 180 litres per page 40, and running low pulls air into the pump. Test main relief pressure against the 250 bar spec on page 38. If pressure checks out but functions stay slow, inspect the pump and circuit components covered in the hydraulic section starting on page 266.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 266
