New Holland T4.85, T4.95, T4.105, T4.115 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Tractor does not move (Power Shuttle)

The Power Shuttle troubleshooting table lists three causes: low system pressure, low forward clutch pressure and low reverse clutch pressure. Check system pressure first. If system pressure is good, check forward and reverse clutch pressure and repair the clutch as necessary, following the Power Shuttle section.

Manual Section: Transmission p. 170
Steering wheel excessively stiff

There are two causes to rule out. A faulty hydraulic pump needs repair, and the Steering chapter covers the pump and its rated output. A pressure relief valve that is set wrong needs calibrating back to 165 - 170 bar (2392.5 - 2465 psi).

Manual Section: Steering p. 1083
The lift operates in jerks

Start with the cheap checks. Restore the oil level if the tank is low. Clean or replace the pump inlet filter if it is clogged. If it still jerks, air is getting in, so check the suction pipe, its fittings and the seal.

Manual Section: Hitches, Drawbars and Implement Couplings p. 1000
The clutch slips

Once the clutch is apart, look for three causes. Replace worn disks. Replace the Belleville spring if it is weak or damaged. If the friction surfaces have oil or grease on them, replace the disks, find and eliminate the source of the grease, then clean the surfaces.

Manual Section: Clutch p. 155

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover my New Holland T4.85, T4.95, T4.105 or T4.115, and which transmission and PIN?

It covers all four models, less cab and with cab. Hi-Lo tractors are covered from PIN ZxJT0xxxx and above. Mechanical and Power Shuttle tractors are covered from PIN ZxJT5xxxx and above. This is part number 47840679, which replaces part number 47561948. p. 1

What are the New Holland T4.85 to T4.115 fluid capacities?

Engine oil takes 8.5 l (2 US gal) of SAE 10W-40. The fuel tank holds 115 l (30 US gal). Cooling takes 16 l (4.2 US gal), or 14 l (3.7 US gal) on a model without cab. Transmission and rear axle take 48 l (12.7 US gal) mechanical or 58 l (15.3 US gal) hydraulic. The front axle takes 4.5 l (1.2 US gal), and each final drive takes 1.0 l (0.3 US gal). p. 19

What are the New Holland T4.85 to T4.115 hydraulic pump outputs and relief valve settings?

The lift pump delivers 45 l/min (11.89 US gpm) and the services pump 25 l/min (6.60 US gpm). The optional pumps deliver 60 l/min (15.85 US gpm) and 32 l/min (8.45 US gpm). The mechanical transmission hydraulic schematic shows the main pressure relief valve calibrated to 190.0 bar (2755.0 psi). The steering pressure relief valve is set at 165 - 170 bar (2392.5 - 2465 psi). p. 816

What is the New Holland T4.85 to T4.115 lift capacity, engine speed for each PTO speed and wheel nut torque?

Lift capacity at the ball ends is 2430 kg (5357 lb) without the supplementary cylinder and 3018 kg (6654 lb) with it. For 540 RPM at the PTO, the engine runs at 1957 RPM with the mechanical PTO or 1876 RPM with the hydraulic PTO. 540E needs 1535 RPM and 1000 needs 2125 RPM. Torque the front 4WD disk to hub to 220.0 N·m (162.3 lb ft). Torque the rear disc to hub nuts to 310.0 N·m (228.6 lb ft). p. 930

What is inside this manual: wiring diagrams, hydraulic schematics, fault codes?

You get electrical schematic sheets for every version, plus connector diagrams and harness repair. Hydraulic schematics cover the mechanical transmission, the Power Shuttle control valve and the front loader. The DTC chapter gives the cause and solution for each code. Troubleshooting tables cover the clutch, transmission, 4WD, axles, PTO, hitch, steering and air conditioning. The engine chapter covers removal, fuel tanks, EGR, DPF, cooling, the fan and the aftercooler, but it has no internal overhaul procedures. p. 1331
