New Holland TC35A-TC45DA Series Common Problems This Manual Covers
Ordering engine parts and not knowing which Shibaura you have.
Read the specification table before you order. The TC35 pair takes the three-cylinder N843L at 1622 cc, the TC40 pair the four-cylinder N844 at 1995 cc with a shorter 90 mm stroke, and the TC45 pair the four-cylinder N844L at 2216 cc with the 100 mm stroke. Bore is 84 mm across all three, which is why a piston that fits is not necessarily the right one. The engine section carries the full clearance tables for each.
Manual Section: SECTION 10 - ENGINEThe engine starts hard, smokes, or lacks power.
Run the compression test first, since the manual gives the figure and the tools for it. A healthy engine makes 427 plus or minus 50 psi at a 200 rpm cylinder speed, and the variation between cylinders matters as much as the absolute number. Check that low idle is at 1050 rpm and maximum no-load speed at 2840 rpm before you touch the injection pump, then work the cylinder head and valve train chapters.

Work the hydrostatic transmission section rather than the gear transmission one, because they are separate builds with separate procedures. A neutral creep is usually linkage adjustment rather than a failed pump, and the manual walks the adjustment before the overhaul.
