Part of the Yanmar Repair Manuals.
Set the intake and exhaust valve lash on an L48EE and the number you want is 0.15 mm, printed in the Service Standards table on page 19 of this manual. It is Yanmar's own service manual, publication M9961-H11310, for the L48EE, L70EE and L100EE industrial diesel engines, including the L48EE-D(E), L70EE-D(E) and L100EE-D(E) variants: 136 pages, English, delivered as a PDF download.
Every day the engine sits in pieces is a day whatever it powers stands idle, and this book covers the whole job: disassembly and reassembly procedures, service standards with wear limits for valves, piston, connecting rod, crankshaft and main bearing, a full tightening torque table, fuel injection pump and governor service, injection timing adjustment, air bleeding, and an electrical section with wiring diagrams plus troubleshooting charts.
Buy it once and it is yours: keep the file, print the torque pages for the bench, and reassemble to the clearances Yanmar intended.

Yanmar L48–L100 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine cranks but will not start
When there is no fuel injection sound at the pump, the usual suspects are a blocked filter, air in the lines or low compression pressure. The troubleshooting charts start from the symptom and walk you to the cause.
Manual Section: Troubleshooting p. 106Air in the fuel system
Run the tank dry or change the fuel filter and these engines will not fire until the system is bled. The Adjustment section gives the air bleeding procedure along with fuel injection timing and shim selection.
Manual Section: Adjustment p. 73Low compression and rising oil use
Worn rings show up as harder starting, blow-by and smoky exhaust. This section covers checking the piston, piston pin, pin hole and piston rings against service limits before you order parts.
Manual Section: Piston and Piston Pin p. 50Hunting or surging under load
Uneven running usually traces to the governor: governor spring hole position, regulator lever wear or a misadjusted no-load maximum revolutions set bolt. This section covers each type of speed control device fitted to these engines.
Manual Section: Speed Control Device p. 71Recoil starter heavy or jammed
A recoil that pulls too hard or fails to retract will stop a hand-start engine cold. The disassembly and reassembly chapter includes the recoil starter, and the troubleshooting charts list a heavy recoil among their symptoms.
Manual Section: 10. Disassembly and Reassembly p. 36Starting and charging faults
A starter motor that will not turn, a battery that never charges or a failed regulator all land in the Electrical System section, which includes the wiring diagram plus starter motor, generator, regulator, rectifier and battery service.
Manual Section: Electrical System p. 78Stripped fastener threads
Overtightened bolts eventually pull their threads out of the case. The manual covers repairing them with helical inserts, including insert sizes and the fitting procedure, so a stripped hole does not scrap the part.
Manual Section: 14. Helical Inserting Part for Repair p. 129Frequently Asked Questions
Which Yanmar engines does this manual cover?
It covers the Yanmar L48EE, L70EE and L100EE industrial diesel engines, including the L48EE-D(E), L70EE-D(E) and L100EE-D(E) variants. The coverage goes down to application-level detail: page 4 gives the fuel injection nozzle tightening torque separately for the standard engine and for stamper and rammer applications, alongside the rocker arm support and flywheel torques. It is Yanmar publication M9961-H11310.
Does it include tightening torque specifications?
Yes. The Tightening Torques table on page 29 lists flywheel end nuts, cylinder head nuts, connecting rod bolts and nuts, crankcase cover bolts, head stud bolts and the FO nozzle case nut by engine model. For example, L48EE and L70EE flywheel end nuts are 11770 to 12750 N·cm. p. 29
What is the valve clearance for a Yanmar L48-L100 Series industrial diesel engine?
Intake and exhaust valve clearance is 0.15 ± 0.05 mm for the L48EE, L70EE and L100EE. The Service Standards section lists it alongside wear limits for valves, guides, springs, piston, connecting rod, crankshaft and main bearing, and the Adjustment section covers setting the lash. p. 19
Are wiring diagrams and electrical repairs covered?
Yes. The Electrical System section, pages 78 to 105, includes the wiring diagram and covers the starter motor, generator, regulator, rectifier and battery, so you can trace starting and charging faults on the engine. p. 78
Is this Service Manual a digital download?
Immediate download of the complete 136-page searchable Service Manual. Access it on any device, from a laptop at your desk to a phone in the field.
Is this Yanmar L48–L100 Series Service Manual printable?
No restrictions at all. Print individual pages, full chapters, or the entire manual. The PDF is completely unlocked.
Are there wiring harness diagrams in this Yanmar L48–L100 Series manual?
Yes. The Electrical System section starts on page 78 and carries the wiring diagram along with the starter motor, generator, regulator, rectifier and battery - the same coverage described above, and there is no separate harness or pinout chapter beyond it.
