The Case factory service manual for the 1080 and 1080B crawler excavators, publication 8-42681, 1,593 pages. These machines were built with either a Case engine or a Detroit Diesel In-Line 71, and this one volume carries both: Case engine specifications, removal, installation and service, plus the complete Detroit Diesel Engine Manual for the In-Line 71 - overhaul from cylinder block through pistons, crankshaft, head and blower, then the limiting speed governor, fuel injection, vehicle equipment and engine troubleshooting. That Detroit Diesel book is normally a separate purchase and it is most of this volume.
Around it: fuel system, electrical, track and suspension, power train with the swing and travel drives, brakes, the hydraulics (pumps, main control valve, cylinders, swivel and circuit operation) and mounted equipment for boom, arm and bucket.
The book closes with its schematic sheets: page 1590 is the full 1080/1080B (Late) electrical schematic with the cab, engine and console harnesses and wire numbers, and page 1592 is the full hydraulic schematic showing the inside and outside main control valves, the hand and foot modulator valves, the hydraulic swivel and both drive motors.
