Wrenching on a Case 410, 420, or 420CT? This download is both factory books: the 943-page Series 3 repair manual (OEM #87634765NA, 2008) and the 526-page base-series service manual (87364090NA, 2005/06). Between them they cover the full skid steer and compact track loader line, from engine and radiator removal through loader arms and attachment coupler. Inside: full-sheet electrical schematics with troubleshooting procedures, fold-out hydraulic diagrams, hydrostatic drive teardown and rebuild steps, and rubber track service for the 420CT, including drive sprockets, idlers, and rollers. You also get page after page of exploded views for hydraulic cylinders, gear pumps, and the loader control valve. Fill the hydraulic system with Case Akcela No. 1 SAE 10W30, run 50/50 ethylene glycol in the radiator, and torque a dash-6 flare fitting to 27 to 33 Newton metres. A dead loader doesn't wait for parts-counter guesses. Bookmarked by section and keyword-searchable; pull it up on your phone and get back to work.

Case 410, 420, 420CT Common Problems This Manual Covers

Case 410 cranks slow and starts hard after skipped oil changes, blue smoke at idle

Drain the crankcase and cut the old filter open to check for metal. Refill with fresh oil: the 410 takes 8.7 litres with the filter, or 10.5 litres on Tier 3 engines per page 17. Then load test the battery and starter circuit using the electrical procedures starting, and drain any water from the fuel tank.

Manual Section: Engine p. 33
All hydraulic functions weak and jerky, bucket barely lifts a full load

Check hydraulic oil level first; the system holds 50.2 litres total, and a low reservoir starves the gear pump. Inspect the strainer and replace a clogged hydraulic filter, then run the loader function troubleshooting in the Hydraulics section starting on page 623. Refill only with Case Akcela No. 1 Engine Oil SAE 10W30.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 623
Intermittent no-start and dead gauges, wiring harness connectors corroded near the chassis

Check battery voltage and clean every ground before chasing the harness. Test the seat switch and interlock relay circuits with the procedures starting; each safety switch circuit should read 12 volts. Measure Connector 4 at the alternator B terminal for 50 ohm resistance, then trace suspect wires on the diagram.

Manual Section: Electrical System Troubleshooting
Engine overheats within an hour of loader work, coolant level drops steadily

Check coolant cold and inspect the radiator for debris packed between the fins; blow it out from the fan side. Pressure test the cap and hoses for leaks. Refill with 50% water and 50% ethylene glycol: standard machines hold 17 litres, Tier 3 engines take 11.5 litres per the capacities on page 17.

Manual Section: Engine p. 37
Loader control valve weeps hydraulic oil at the fittings after a hose replacement

Clean the valve body, run the loader, and find the exact weep point before wrenching. Tighten 37 degree flare fittings to spec, not by feel: a -8 fitting takes 46 to 56 Newton metres per the chart on page 17. If the valve itself seeps, torque the load check valves to 65 ± 7 Nm following page 722.

Manual Section: Hydraulics p. 722

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the hydraulic filter pressure switch fault on a Case 420?

The hydraulic filter pressure switch fault is cleared by replacing the faulty switch or repairing the wiring. If the readings are good, replace the hydraulic filter pressure switch. p. 90

What are the error codes on a Case 420CT?

The 420CT uses blink codes displayed on the Red LED of the Control Module. For example, code (1, 1) indicates a Machine Selection Error, and code (3, 1) indicates a Proportional Valve Solenoid Fault. p. 593

How do I clear a Case 420CT alarm code?

Stored fault codes can be erased by going through the first 4 steps of the calibration procedure. This involves opening the calibration input connectors (E, K) and cycling the power. p. 593

What is the correct torque for the drive sprocket bolts on a 410 skid steer?

The initial torque for the drive sprocket bolts is 67 to 163 Nm (50 to 120 pound-feet), and the final torque is 285 to 320 Nm (208 to 235 pound-feet), tightened in a star pattern. p. 315

What format is this Case 410 manual in?

You get a 943-page searchable PDF that downloads instantly after checkout. Open it on your laptop, tablet, or phone, and bring it right to the shop floor.

Can I print a copy of this Case 410 Repair Manual for the shop?

Print away. There is no DRM and no page limit. Many buyers print one chapter at a time and leave the rest on a tablet.

Is there a hydraulic diagram in this Case 410 Repair Manual?

Included in full: hydraulic circuit schematics, valve layouts, and pressure specifications for the Case 410, 420, 420CT. There is one on page 633, for example.
