Track chain sagging, a slow swing, or a Mitsubishi 6D2 that won't hold timing: the answers sit in the Case 9000, 9060 service manual PDF, 653 pages of factory service literature under Bur 7-47040 for the 9060 excavator. Tracks, rollers and idlers get their own troubleshooting section, and the hydraulics section walks the main pump, pilot control circuit pump, hydraulic swivel, main control valve, swing motor and reduction gear box down to component level. Foldout electrical and hydraulic schematics show you circuit routing instead of leaving you tracing wires by feel. Set exhaust valve clearance cold at 0.6 mm, mix Long Life Coolant between 30 and 60 percent, pull a 1/2 in Grade 5 fastener to 80-96 lb-ft (109-130 Nm). The file is bookmarked and text-searchable.

Case 9060, 9000 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Case 9060 main hydraulic pump whining under load, boom and arm crawl at full throttle

Run a flow test before condemning the pump. Each section should deliver 90 U.S. gpm at 2000 psi at 2000 rpm per the pump specifications on page 520. Follow the circuit tests starting to isolate a weak section from a stuck main relief. If you pull the pump, rig for 485 pounds (220 kg).

Manual Section: Hydraulic Troubleshooting p. 520
Swing is slow or stalls on a slope, house drifts after the joystick centers

Check swing motor leakage under load: anything over 3 gpm (11 L/min), the limit on page 520, means the motor is worn internally and rebuilding beats patching. On reassembly, apply Loctite 262 and torque the mounting cap screws to 665 to 774 pound-feet (901 to 1049 Nm).

Manual Section: Hydraulic Troubleshooting p. 605
Machine overheats in the afternoon, coolant temperature climbs during heavy digging

Clean the core face first, then check mix strength: long life coolant belongs at 30 to 60% concentration per page 264. Drain and refill the system with 12.7 U.S. gallons (48 litres). If it still climbs, work the overheating chart and set exhaust valve clearance cold at 0.6 mm before blaming the radiator.

Manual Section: Cooling Troubleshooting p. 264
Engine hard to start, runs rough, surges at idle after fuel filter change

Bleed the system and hunt air leaks on the suction side. Check every injection pump eyebolt, since a weeping fitting pulls air: fuel inlet and feed eyebolts torque to 20 to 25 Nm and leak off pipe eyebolts to 9.8 to 15 Nm as listed on page 169. Then work the hard start chart.

Manual Section: Fuel and Engine Control Troubleshooting p. 169
Tracks loose and slapping the carrier rollers, machine pulls to one side while traveling

Measure sag at the carrier roller and adjust the track adjustment cylinder before replacing chain. Inspect idlers and rollers for end leakage while you are in there: a track roller holds 14.5 ounces (440 cc), a carrier roller 6.6 ounces (200 cc), and an idler wheel 11.9 ounces (360 cc). The capacity specifications are on page 480.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the torque specification for the cylinder head bolts on the 9060 excavator engine?

Tighten the cylinder head bolts (M14 x 2, wet) in the sequence shown to 175 Nm (18 kgfm), verify the torque, then retighten a further 90 degrees. The torque table on page 26 points to this procedure, 5.2.3 (6) in the engine section. p. 86

What is the correct engine oil capacity for the 9060 excavator?

The engine oil capacity for the 9060 excavator, including the filter change, is 7.7 U.S. gallons (29 litres). p. 13

What is the specified valve clearance for the 6D22-TC engine in a Case 9060, 9000 excavator?

The valve clearance for the 6D22-TC engine, when cold, is 0.4 mm for the inlet valves and 0.6 mm for the exhaust valves. p. 25

What is the correct procedure for bleeding air from the cooling system?

To bleed the cooling system, close the radiator drain valve, fill the radiator and reservoir to the fill neck with a mixture of 55% ethylene glycol and 45% water, then run the engine at low idle until the temperature gauge indicates normal operating temperature (4th or 5th amber bar). Finally, stop the engine, let it cool, and top off the coolant to the FULL mark. p. 35

What is the main bearing cap bolt tightening torque on a Case 9060, 9000 excavator?

The main bearing cap bolts for the 6D22-TC engine must be tightened to 370 Nm (38 kgfm) in a wet state. p. 26

How quickly can I access this Case 9000 manual after buying?

Immediate download of the complete 653-page searchable Service Manual. Access it on any device, from a laptop at your desk to a phone in the field.

Does this Case 9000 manual allow printing?
