Case David 770–1175 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Case 970 tractor pulling down while operating with a strong smell of burning brakes
Inspect the master cylinder and ensure bore to piston clearance does not exceed 0.007 inches. Disconnect the upper pressure line from the hydraulic pump and connect a flow meter as shown on page 60. Verify system flow is 8 gpm at no pressure.

Inspect the steering linkage components for binding or excessive play. Tighten the steering column outer jam nuts to 30-35 ft.-lbs. as specified on page 10. If hard steering persists, examine the steering column pivot studs and torque them to 25-30 in.-lbs.
