Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
Written for the Case IH RR144, RR180 and RR204 flex wing finish mowers, this 120-page Case IH RR144 repair manual PDF carries OEM ID 87757972. Three models, one book. Wiring diagrams map the electrical system and lighting control module, with left and right turn signal module tests and a logic diagram for tracing the circuit. The hydraulic chapters take the rear and lateral cylinders from removal through installation, while the mower sections cover drive belts, blade sharpening, the mower deck gearbox, the flex wing transfer gearbox and spindle rebuilds. Set cutting edge clearance at 1/32 inch, and fit 2900 mm (114 in) hoses on the RR144 and RR180 versus 3000 mm (118 in) on the RR204. If your task is setting belt tension on the lateral decks or measuring backlash on a reassembled deck gearbox, both procedures are listed in the contents. The bookmarked pages print cleanly, so you can keep the spindle disassembly sequence on paper as a working copy.

Case IH RR144, RR180, RR204 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Case IH RR144 RR180 RR204 flex wing mower hydraulic lift: mower decks rise and lower slowly
Clean the flow reducer; if the decks still move slowly, replace the quick coupler on the main hydraulic hose, per page 32. Next, repair the hydraulic cylinder: park on level ground and lower all decks to relieve cylinder pressure (page 14). Torque the cylinder head to 170 N·m (125 ft-lb) and the rod nut to 400 N·m (295 ft-lb) on page 18.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Troubleshooting p. 32Lateral or rear deck drive belts wearing out quickly and mower cutting performance dropping off
Verify the tractor is shut off and the PTO shaft disconnected before touching tension, as the warning on page 46 requires. Remove the deck, pull the belt cover shields, loosen the four slide-reduction unit-pulley nuts and back the jam nut off 6 mm (0.25 in). Tighten the screw, apply 6.8 kg (15 lbs) at point D and set 15.8 to 19.0 mm (0.62 to 0.75 in) deflection.
Manual Section: Drive Belt Replacement and Adjustment p. 46Mower blades showing chips, cracks or bends on inspection under the deck
Inspect each blade only after the decks are securely latched by the hooks on the Flex Wing frame, and wear leather gloves (page 50). Replace any blade with damage sharpening won't fix; never sharpen to a razor edge (page 52). Install sail up, rotate blades to new spindles, torque nuts to 200 to 210 N·m (148 to 155 ft-lb) and recheck after the first hour (page 51).
Manual Section: Mower Blade Removal and Installation p. 51Mower deck gearbox gear backlash measuring out of specification after rebuild and reassembly
Measure backlash during assembly following page 73 and hold it at 0.051 to 0.102 mm (0.002 to 0.004 in) before closing the case. Apply a small amount of grease to the O-ring before installing it (page 72). Fill with SAE 80-90W gear oil per page 74, then torque the output shaft castle nut to 550 N·m (405 ft-lb) on page 75.
Manual Section: Mower Deck Gearbox Repair p. 73Left or right turn signal with brakes not working through the lighting control module
Test the lighting control module following page 36: use a flasher and light to simulate the pulsating current going into terminal one for the left turn signal. Repeat the test on terminal two for the right turn signal per page 37, then run the remaining tests by the flasher and input locations shown in the logic diagram.
Manual Section: Electrical Lighting Control Module Testing p. 36Frequently Asked Questions
What are the torque specs for the M20 x 1.5 nut on the rear hydraulic cylinder of the Case IH RR144, RR180, RR204?
The M20 x 1.5 nut on the rear hydraulic cylinder must be torqued to 400 N⋅m (295 ft-lb). This procedure is performed after installing the piston and O-ring onto the rod. p. 18
What is the required belt deflection for the lateral decks on the RR144, RR180, and RR204?
When applying 6.8 kg (15 lbs) of force to the middle of the left and right belts at point D, the belts should have a deflection of 15.8 - 19.0 mm (0.62 - 0.75 in). p. 46
What is the torque specification for the mower blade nut on the Case IH RR144, RR180, RR204?
The mower blade nut must be torqued to 200 - 210 N⋅m (148 - 155 ft-lb). It is important to recheck and re-torque the blade after the first hour of operation and daily thereafter. p. 51
What is the backlash measurement spec for the mower deck gearbox on the Case IH RR144, RR180, RR204?
The input shaft of the mower deck gearbox should have a backlash measurement of 0.051 - 0.102 mm (0.002 - 0.004 in). If this measurement is not correct, the gearbox must be disassembled and the shims readjusted. p. 73
What is the torque spec for the M24 castle nut on the gearbox output shaft of the Case IH RR144, RR180, RR204?
The M24 castle nut on the gearbox output shaft must be torqued to 550 N⋅m (405 ft-lb). p. 75
