Part of the Case Repair Manuals.
The Case W14 service manual PDF breaks the W14 loader down system by system across 813 pages under Case OEM ID 9-72536, from engine tune-up and the Robert Bosch injection pump through the Allison powershift transmission and air brakes. Hydraulic diagrams trace the loader circuit through the L51290 and L52776 loader control valves, with separate backhoe diagrams and pressure checks for the Model 26C backhoe. Electrical work starts from a wiring diagram for machines without instrument clusters, then moves through batteries, the starter solenoid and both alternators. Set injectors to open at 3200 PSI, then confirm 400 PSI cranking compression (480 PSI running) with the gauge adapter torqued to 35 to 45 ft. lbs. If steering troubleshooting brought you here, the steering hydraulic diagram shows how the steering control valve, flow control valve and steering cylinders connect. The bookmarked, text-searchable file goes wherever your W14 does.

Case W14 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Case W14 loader engine hard to start or will not start with no smoke from exhaust
Check that the fuel shut-off lever opens completely, the fuel tank shutoff valve is open and the final air filter restriction indicator is clear, following page 36. Bleed the fuel system until fuel flows with no bubbles and service clogged fuel filters. Before cranking, put all controls in neutral, set the brakes and block the wheels (page 74). Cranking speed must reach 200 to 300 RPM.
Manual Section: Engine Diagnosis p. 36Engine hard to start with smoke from exhaust and low compression on several cylinders
Take a compression test following page 76. Compare readings against 400 PSI by the cranking method or 480 PSI by the running method, and torque the gauge adapter to 35 to 45 ft. lbs. If readings are low, squirt oil into the cylinder and retest; a rise points to worn piston rings. Before cranking, put controls in neutral, set the brakes and block the wheels (page 74).
Manual Section: Engine Diagnosis p. 76Loader valve circuits slow or weak with poor operation of all hydraulic circuits at once
Depressurize the hydraulic reservoir before opening any line: close the air shutoff valve and loosen the dipstick slowly (page 281). Keep the engine at low idle until the inlet pressure gauge reads 10+5 psi or the air gauge needle sits in the green zone. Check main relief pressure against 2200 ± 50 psi at 2200 rpm on page 298. Then work through the pump, control valve, cylinders, hoses and fittings.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Trouble Shooting p. 298Poor operation of a single loader circuit traced to the bucket cylinder or lift cylinder
Block raised attachments before disconnecting cylinder lines (page 282). Support the cylinder with a chain hoist before pulling mounting pins (page 369), and never start the engine with hoses disconnected. On reassembly, torque glands to 100-200 ft-lbs, bucket cylinder piston bolts to 475-525 ft-lbs and solid-bolt lift cylinder pistons to 1000-1200 ft-lbs (page 368). Operate cylinders slowly without bottoming out until movement is positive both ways (page 389).
Manual Section: Hydraulic System Trouble Shooting p. 368Poor air brakes on the loader with the air compressor failing to maintain system pressure
Check the air compressor governor following page 624: cut-in should occur at 100 psi and cut-out at 120 psi. Do not run the engine above low idle until the pump inlet pressure gauge shows at least 5 psi (34 kPa) or the air gauge needle sits in the green zone (page 605). Then inspect for unloader issues, noisy operation and excessive oil at the compressor.
Manual Section: Air Compressor Trouble Shooting p. 624Batteries keep running down with alternator charging issues and slow starter operation
Disconnect the battery ground cable first and hook it up last (page 730). Test battery capacity against 9.2 V at the 10 second reading on page 730, then check alternator output against 35 amperes on page 714. Never ground the alternator output terminal, reverse battery connections or run the machine with batteries disconnected (page 718). Add water only, not electrolyte, when servicing cells (page 731).
Manual Section: Electrical System Trouble Shooting p. 730Frequently Asked Questions
How do I reset the air-cleaner restriction indicator on a Case W14?
The air cleaner restriction indicator is serviced as an assembly and is non-adjustable. If the red band remains in view after servicing the primary element, the indicator must be replaced. p. 206
What are the wheel-nut torque specifications for a Case W14?
The wheel nuts for a Case W14 should be torqued to 380-420 foot-pounds, dry threads. p. 26
Why does a Case W14 engine crank slowly or fail to start?
Slow cranking speed can be caused by defective batteries, cables, solenoid, or starting motor. It can also be caused by internal engine defects such as scuffing and scoring of pistons and sleeves, improper crankshaft or camshaft end play, or defective rod/crank bearings. p. 36
How do I bleed air from the Case W14 fuel system?
To bleed the fuel system, operate the hand primer pump and open the bleed valves on the 1st and 2nd stage fuel filters until clear, bubble-free fuel appears. p. 224
What is the correct cylinder head bolt torque for the 336BD engine in the Case W14?
The cylinder head bolts for the 336BD engine should be torqued to 195 to 215 Ft. Lbs. p. 21
What do I get after purchasing this Case W14 manual?
All 813 pages arrive as one searchable PDF at checkout. Read it at the desk, then take the phone out to the machine.
Am I free to print this Case W14 Service Manual?
Yes. Many mechanics print the section they need for their own shop and bring it to the bench.
