John Deere 6145R-6215R Common Problems This Manual Covers

Air intake assembly leaking at the hose or seal, causing fan errors and reduced cooling

The Engine section covers the EGR and charge-air cooling plumbing with removal and installation steps for the intake assembly, hoses, clamps and seal kit, so you replace the failed seal instead of chasing the symptom with the fan.

Manual Section: Engine - EGR and Charge-Air Cooling
Engine running hot or the cooling fan not behaving, traced to the fan solenoid pressure hose

A kinked or weeping pressure hose between the solenoid valve and fan starves the fan drive. The Hydraulic System section gives the removal, installation and test procedures for the valve circuit so you can replace the hose and verify operation afterward.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System - Control Valves
Cracked or seeping fuel lines and fittings after years of heat cycling, a real fire risk near a hot engine

Do not patch fuel lines on one of these. The Engine section covers fuel system component removal and installation with the correct routing and torque on fittings, so replacement lines go back exactly as the factory ran them, away from hot surfaces.

Manual Section: Engine - Fuel System Components
AutoPowr/IVT needing internal service, which nobody should attempt from memory

The Transmissions section carries the full AutoPowr/IVT disassembly, assembly, specifications and the tests and adjustments to run after the work. This unit is the most expensive mistake on the tractor, and the manual is cheaper than one wrong shim.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual have the diagnostic trouble code lists and wiring schematics?

No, and you should know that before you buy. TM406919 is the Repair manual: removal, installation, specifications, tests and adjustments. The fault code charts, functional schematics and step-by-step electrical diagnostics live in the separate companion Diagnosis and Tests manual for these same models. If you are chasing a code on the CommandCenter, you want that book. If you already know what has to come apart and go back together, this is the one.

Which transmissions are covered? Mine has the AutoPowr/IVT.

All three that came in these tractors: the AutoPowr/IVT continuously variable, the PowrQuad and the DirectDrive. The IVT section is the one most owners buy this book for, because that unit is expensive to guess at. You get disassembly and assembly procedures, specifications and the tests and adjustments needed after service. PowrQuad and DirectDrive get the same treatment, so the manual matches whatever spec your tractor left the factory with.

Will this help with the cooling fan and air intake leak problems these tractors are known for?

Yes, on the repair side. The intake hose and seal leaks that cause fan complaints and cooling loss on the 6R are a known sore spot, and the Engine section covers the charge-air cooling and EGR plumbing with the removal and installation steps to replace hoses, clamps and seal kits properly instead of just cinching a clamp tighter. For the electronic side of a fan fault you would pair it with the Diagnosis manual.

Can I pull the engine or split the tractor with this manual?

That is exactly what it is written for. The Engine section walks through PowerTech 6.8L removal and installation, and the Drive Train section covers the driveshaft, MFWD axle, differential and final drives. You get the specifications to reassemble to spec, the bore is 106.5 mm, stroke 127 mm, 17.0:1 compression, rated speed 2100 rpm, so machining and rebuild decisions are made from printed numbers, not forum guesses.

What format is it and can I use it in the shop?

PDF download, searchable, and you can print the pages you are about to get dirty. Keep it on a tablet at the bench or run off the torque chart and pin it above the vise. It covers 6145R, 6155R, 6155RH, 6175R, 6195R and 6215R in one book, so one purchase covers a mixed fleet of these models.
