Part of the John Deere Repair Manuals.
This is the factory Repair Technical Manual for John Deere 5085M, 5100M, 5100MH, 5100ML, 5115M and 5115ML tractors (model years 2014-2016, Final Tier 4). It covers the 4045 PowerTech 4.5L turbo engine and cooling system, fuel/air intake/exhaust, electrical components and harness routing, all three transmissions (SyncShuttle Plus 12F/4R, PowrReverser 16F/16R, PowrReverser Plus 32F/16R on 5115M/ML), clutch, differential, final drives, PTO, MFWD, steering, brakes, the full hydraulic system, front axle, 3-point hitch, cab, A/C and dealer-fabricated special tools. Every procedure is removal, inspection and installation with the torque values and specifications you need at the bench. Note: this is the repair book - fault-code diagnostics live in the companion Diagnostic manual TM134219.

John Deere 5M Series Common Problems This Manual Covers
Engine running hot in heavy work, coolant temperature climbing
Start with the cooling system group in Section 20. The manual gives the coolant drain procedure at p.110, radiator removal, inspection and installation at p.114-118, and the thermostat remove-and-install procedure at p.120, so you can replace a stuck thermostat or rod out a packed radiator properly.
Manual Section: Section 20 - Engine, Group 10: Cooling System p. 120Hard starting or power loss from contaminated or clogged fuel filters
Section 30 covers the fuel system on these engines. The fuel filter replacement procedure is at p.142, with fuel line and strainer inspection at p.146-148, so you can chase restricted fuel delivery from the tank forward instead of guessing and throwing parts at it.
Manual Section: Section 30 - Fuel, Air Intake, Exhaust, and Cooling p. 142Battery not holding charge, slow cranking, or a dead alternator
Section 40, Group 05 has the remove-and-install procedures for the battery, starter and alternator starting at p.195. The book specifies the 12V 950 CCA battery for this range, and the harness routing illustrations help you reroute cables correctly on reassembly.
Manual Section: Section 40 - Electrical, Group 05: Battery, Starter and Alternator p. 195Frequently Asked Questions
Will this manual help me read or clear fault codes on the dash?
No, and it is worth knowing that before you buy. This is the Repair Technical Manual: teardown, inspection, assembly and torque procedures. Fault-code and electronic troubleshooting content is in the separate Diagnostic manual TM134219, which Deere lists right on this book's cover as its companion. Buy this one when a component needs to come off the tractor and go back on correctly. p. 1
Does it include wiring diagrams for the electrical system?
It includes harness routing and connector-location illustrations, not printed circuit schematics. You get pictures showing where each harness runs and plugs in - for example, headliner removed to show antenna lead routing - which is what you need for replacing a harness or chasing a chafed wire. If you need full schematics for circuit tracing, that lives in the diagnostic companion volume. p. 215
My 5115M has the 32-speed PowrReverser Plus. Is that transmission actually covered?
Yes. The Drive Systems and Transmissions section covers all three gearboxes fitted to this range: SyncShuttle Plus 12F/4R, PowrReverser 16F/16R, and the PowrReverser Plus 32F/16R that came only on 5115M and 5115ML. It also walks the tractor separation procedure, clutch assemblies, differential, final drives, PTO, MFWD and the creeper option. p. 41
Does it cover the DEF/SCR emissions hardware on these Final Tier 4 tractors?
The Miscellaneous section covers SCR covers and shields removal and installation, and the exhaust system group covers the exhaust hardware itself. What it does not do is diagnose SCR system faults or regen problems - that electronic troubleshooting is in the companion Diagnostic manual. For physically servicing and reinstalling the emissions-era tinwork and exhaust components, this book has you covered. p. 1060
Are basic specs and capacities in here, or do I need the operator's manual too?
The General Information section carries the specifications you actually use on the floor: engine ratings (63.4 kW/85 hp for the 5085M up to 85.8 kW/115 hp for the 5115M), the 39.4 L (10.4 gal) transmission-hydraulic capacity, 12V 950 CCA battery spec, hydraulic flow of 69.6 L/min at 190-200 bar, plus fuels, lubricants and serial number locations for parts ordering. p. 43
