Wrenching on a John Deere 1350, 1550, 1750, 1850, 1850N, 1950, or 1950N? This 666-page technical manual PDF (OEM #TM4437) is the factory shop reference for the whole tractor line, engine through operator's cab. You get complete engine and power train teardowns: single- and dual-stage clutches, Hi-Lo shift unit, creeper transmission, differential, final drives, and all three PTO setups, with exploded views and factory torque tables throughout. Hydraulics, steering, and brakes get the same treatment, from rockshaft and selective control valve service to power steering rebuilds. Set the oil pan drain plugs to 135 Nm (100 ft-lb) and check braking pressure against the 14000 kPa (140 bar; 2030 psi) spec. Your tractor is down; forum guesses won't lift it. Multi-level bookmarks jump you straight to any system, and the PDF opens on any laptop, tablet, or phone in the shop.

John Deere 1350, 1550, 1750, 1850, 1850N, 1950, 1950N Common Problems This Manual Covers
Hydraulic remotes and three-point hitch respond slowly, flow drops off once the oil warms up
Remove and test the flow control valve spring. On 1350, 1550, 1750, 1850, and 1850N tractors, spring tension must measure 33 to 40 N (7.4 to 9 lb) at a compressed length of 21 mm (0.8 in.), per page 556. The 1950 and 1950N take a different spring; verify against the separate spec on that same page.
Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 556Oil seeping around drain plug after service, low oil pressure light flickers at idle
Replace the seal rings whenever the drain plugs come out; a reused ring will weep no matter how tight you go. Torque the drain plugs to 135 Nm (100 ft-lb) and insert the strainer before adding fresh oil, as shown on page 92. Recheck the level after a short run and confirm the light stays off.
Manual Section: Engine p. 92Frequently Asked Questions
What is the torque specification for the clutch assembly to flywheel cap screws?
The torque specification for the clutch assembly to flywheel cap screws is 50 Nm (35 ft-lb). p. 299
How do you fix john Deere 1850 diesel engine overheats and loses power under heavy load, temperature gauge climbing into the red?
Check fan belt tension first. Tension the belt so it deflects 19 mm (3/4 in.) with 90 N (20 lb) pressure applied midway between the crankshaft and alternator, per page 278. Then pressure test the cooling system at 50 to 70 kPa (7 to 10 psi) using the spec on page 100, and blow chaff out of the radiator fins. p. 278
How do you fix engine down on power at full throttle, black smoke, air restriction warning light stays on?
Test air intake vacuum before tearing into the fuel system. Normal restriction runs 3.5 to 6.0 kPa (14 to 25 in. water head), and the warning switch closes at 5.5 to 6.5 kPa; both specs are on page 100. Replace the air cleaner element if vacuum exceeds the limit, then recheck under full load. p. 100
How do you fix trailer brakes weak with spongy pedal, tractor pulls to one side under braking?
Bleed the brake system, then heat the hydraulic oil to 65°C (150°F) before adjusting the brake valve; an adjustment made on cold oil will drift. Verify braking pressure runs roughly five times control pressure, topping out at 14000 kPa (140 bar; 2030 psi). Both figures are on page 533. p. 533
