Part of the New Holland Repair Manuals.
Every one of the 882 pages in this New Holland Tractor Repair Manual targets the 4835, 5635, 6635, and 7635 models, covering everything from engine teardown to PTO clutch service. You get full electrical circuit diagrams for the starting and charging systems, hydraulic schematics for the rear mechanical lift and remote auxiliary control valves, and a dedicated troubleshooting section for engine faults before you start pulling parts. Check your PTO clutch release spring under a 67.6 kg load, and confirm the alternator tops out at 45A before you chase a phantom charging complaint. Stop swapping components on a hunch. This PDF opens on laptop, tablet, or phone, with bookmarks built in so you can jump straight from the cover to the wiring or hydraulic sections and get back under the hood.

New Holland 4835, 5635, 6635, 7635 Common Problems This Manual Covers
New Holland 4835/5635/6635/7635 hydraulic lift arm losing pressure and rising too slowly under load
Check the hydraulic schematic to trace the charge pump, high-pressure pump, and valve block circuit. Watch for lift speed dropping off after 10 to 20 minutes of operation, a sign the charge pump seal is failing as oil heats up. Remove the pump and replace worn seals before they starve the main pump.
Manual Section: High Pressure Hydraulic SystemEngine temperature climbs above normal and overheats during heavy field work in high heat
Check the engine troubleshooting chart for overheat causes. Inspect the radiator core for clogging and confirm the centrifugal vane-type coolant pump is turning at the correct 1:1.403 ratio to engine speed; a slipping belt or worn pump throws that ratio off fast. Flush the cooling system and replace the thermostat if coolant still climbs.
Manual Section: Engine p. 14Electrical components fail intermittently, lights and gauges cut out or won't start
Check the alternator output against its 45 A maximum rating listed on page 251; a unit reading below spec under load can't keep the battery charged and will drop lights and gauges intermittently. Inspect the wiring harness for chafed insulation near pivot points, clean all ground straps, and load-test the battery before condemning the starter motor.
Manual Section: Electrical System p. 251Engine won't start, runs rough, or knocks under load at working RPM
Check the engine troubleshooting sequence first to rule out fuel and compression issues. Verify valve clearance against the 0.45 mm (0.0177 in.) timing check spec on page 14; clearance out of range causes rough running and knocking that mimics injector or bearing failure. Reset clearance and retest before pulling the head.
Manual Section: Engine p. 14Transmission gear engagement is difficult or fails under load in the field
Verify displacement matches spec, 3613 cm³ on 65 hp models or 3908 cm³ on 85 hp models per page 12, to rule out engine-side power loss mimicking a clutch slip before condemning the clutch. If engine output checks out, inspect the clutch disc for glazing and adjust linkage free play, then road-test in each range.
Manual Section: Power Train p. 12Frequently Asked Questions
What are the torque specifications for transmission bolts on New Holland 35 series tractors?
The torque specification for the bolt or nut securing the clutch/reverser casing to the engine (C1) is 98 N-m (72 ft lbs). This is a key fastening point between the engine and the transmission. p. 52
What is the torque specification for axle mounting nuts on New Holland 6635?
The torque specification for the nut that fixes the axle end screw (1, Fig. 7-10) is 211 N-m (156 ft lbs). This ensures proper fastening of the front axle components. p. 679
What are the operational specifications for the high-pressure hydraulic pump?
For a 65 HP model, the high-pressure hydraulic pump has a maximum rotation speed of 2328 rpm and a corresponding nominal capacity of 34.5 dm³/min (9.11 US gal/min). These specifications are crucial for understanding pump performance. p. 345
What are the specifications for the clutch assembly?
The main clutch driven plate (1, Fig. 6-1) has a thickness of 9.6 - 10.4 mm (0.3780 - 0.4095 in.). The clearance between the clutch release sleeve and relative support is 0.050 - 0.151 mm (0.0020 - 0.0059 in.). p. 50
