You are flat on your back under the drum frame with a wrench on the rubber mounting bolts, and what you need in the next ten minutes is the tightening figure and the order they go back in. That is on the page here, for the exact machine sitting in front of you.

The book is New Holland publication 603.67.000.00: 282 pages covering the CV700, CV900, CV1100, CV1500, CV2000 and CV2500 compactors, all running Cummins B3.9 or B5.9 power. It breaks into Maintenance, Engine, Transmission, Hydrostatic Drive, Hydraulic System and Frames, with troubleshooting charts for engine, vibration, travel, brakes and steering near the front.

A guessed torque or a guessed relief pressure is how a serviceable pump becomes scrap metal. Every figure in here is the factory one. Download the PDF, print the pages for the job you are on, and let them get greasy on the bench until the machine is rolling again.

New Holland CV700–CV2500 Compactor Common Problems This Manual Covers

Hydraulic oil overheating or turning milky

Foaming or milky oil points to air getting in through the steering pump suction circuit, or to contaminated oil of the wrong viscosity, and it will cook pumps and motors long before it clears itself. Maintenance carries a dedicated troubleshooting chart for oil overheating and emulsifying, plus the refill capacities: 73 litres on CV700-CV900, 90 litres on CV1100-CV1500 and 100 litres on CV2000-CV2500.

Manual Section: Maintenance p. 33
Roller sluggish or down on travel pressure

A machine that will not pull itself up a grade is usually a travel circuit that is no longer holding pressure, and the first check is the safety valve setting. The Maintenance troubleshooting data gives 350 bar (5076 psi) for CV700 and CV900, and 420 bar (6091 psi) for CV1100 through CV2500.

Manual Section: Maintenance p. 44
Slow cranking and weak charging

Cold mornings expose a tired battery pack faster than anything else, and guessing at the system voltage is a good way to ruin an alternator. The Maintenance specifications list a 24 volt system, with two 61 Ah batteries on the CV700 and CV900.

Manual Section: Maintenance p. 35
Drive motor leaking internally under load

When the roller creeps at full stroke or loses drive as the oil warms, the travel motor is usually bypassing inside. The Transmission section walks the hydraulic motor through description, disassembly, reconditioning and replacement, and assembly, with its own torque specifications for the rebuild.

Manual Section: Transmission p. 68
Hydrostatic pump rebuild with wrong torques

Side cover screws pulled down to a made up number will either weep or strip the housing, and there is no second chance on a pump case. The Hydraulic System torque data separates the two on the 90R055PV and 90R075PV pumps: 32.5 Nm (24 lb.ft) for side cover screws in blind holes, 25 Nm (18.4 lb.ft) for thru holes, and 32 Nm (23.6 lb.ft) on the swash plate guide.

Manual Section: Hydraulic System p. 158
Weak vibration or poor compaction

If the drum is bouncing without biting, the fault is usually in the vibrator assembly or a frequency setting that has drifted. The Frames section covers the vibrator plate assembly, drum removal, removal of the right side of the drum, and inspection and adjustment of vibration frequency, including the rubber mounting on CV2000 and CV2500.

Manual Section: Frames p. 186
Wheel nuts working loose on rubber tires

Loose wheel nuts elongate the stud holes fast, and once the hub is wallowed out the repair is no longer a wrench job. The Wheels section specifies wheel nut torque at 540 Nm (400 lb.ft), so recheck them after any tire or hub work.

Manual Section: Frames p. 254

Frequently Asked Questions

Which machines does this manual cover?

New Holland CV700, CV900, CV1100, CV1500, CV2000 and CV2500 compactors, powered by the Cummins B3.9 and B5.9. It is factory publication 603.67.000.00, 282 pages, in English. Model specific differences, such as the rubber drum mounting used on CV2000 and CV2500, are called out where they matter.

Does it give fluid capacities for a service?

Yes. Engine oil is 11.2 litres on CV700-CV900, 16.3 litres on CV1100-CV1500 and 14.3 litres on CV2000-CV2500. Cooling system capacity runs 19, 25 and 30 litres across those same groups. The Maintenance section lists hydraulic capacities on the same page. p. 33

How far does the engine coverage go?

The Engine section handles removal and installation: specifications, torque specifications, special tools, and the accelerator cable assembly. Internal overhaul of the Cummins B3.9 or B5.9 is not part of this book, so pair it with a Cummins engine manual if you are going into the block. p. 54

Are torque specifications included throughout?

Yes. Rather than one master chart, each section carries its own torque specifications for the components it covers. As one example, the Wheels section lists wheel nut torque at 540 Nm (400 lb.ft). Pump, hydraulic motor, engine and drum fasteners each have figures in their own section. p. 254

What format is this New Holland CV700–CV2500 Compactor manual in?

A 282-page Service Manual in searchable PDF format, available the moment you complete checkout. View on computer, tablet, or phone, with no shipping wait.

Can I print specific sections of this New Holland CV700–CV2500 Compactor manual?

No restrictions at all. Print individual pages, full chapters, or the entire manual. The PDF is completely unlocked.
