New Holland repair manual 87728447 NA covers the D85B and D95B Tier 3 crawler dozers. It was issued March 2008 in North American English. It runs from the hydraulic pump and relief valves through the hydrostatic drive, final drives, tracks and blade cylinders.

Every subsection is marked for both models, and where the D85B and D95B differ you get separate lines. The specifications give the relief settings, hydrostatic pressures, fill capacities and the track and final drive torques.

Fault codes for the AIC, DTC and EDC come with step-by-step checks. You also get connector diagrams and fold-out schematics.

New Holland D85B, D95B Common Problems This Manual Covers

Code 4121: left forward pump solenoid circuit open or over current, crawler will not move forward

This code means the wiring or solenoid circuit is open, or the drivetrain control module has failed. The Fault Codes: Drive Train Controller (DTC) section has you clean and inspect the pump solenoid connector first. Then measure the coil. Resistance should be 5.75 Ohms ± 0.75 Ohms. If it reads outside that, replace the solenoid.

Manual Section: Fault Codes: Drive Train Controller (DTC) p. 272
Code 4431: parking brake solenoid open circuit, crawler will not move

An open in the wiring or the solenoid circuit sets this code, and the machine stays put. The Fault Codes: Drive Train Controller (DTC) section says to disconnect the parking brake solenoid, inspect the pins and clean the connections. The brake itself is covered in the Service and Parking Brakes section.

Manual Section: Fault Codes: Drive Train Controller (DTC) p. 360
Code 3146: water detected in fuel

Water in the fuel filter sets this code. The Fault Codes: Engine Controller (EDC) section says to drain the fuel filter first. Then check the supply to the water-in-fuel sensor for 12 V. If you don't get 12 V, check fuse F6 in the fuse and relay panel. If every reading is good, replace the sensor.

Manual Section: Fault Codes: Engine Controller (EDC) p. 620
Code 1320: engine oil pressure too low, critical

This code sets when engine oil pressure drops below the set range. The Fault Codes: Retrieval and Instrument Cluster (AIC) section has you check the engine oil type and level first. Next, check the supply to the oil pressure sending unit for 5 V. If the 5 V is there, the book says to replace the sending unit.

Manual Section: Fault Codes: Retrieval and Instrument Cluster (AIC) p. 256

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this manual cover my New Holland D85B or D95B crawler dozer?

This is New Holland repair manual 87728447 NA for the D85B and D95B Tier 3 crawler dozers, issued March 2008 in North American English. Every subsection is marked for both models. Where values differ, the book gives separate D85 and D95 lines. Gross power is 67.1 kW (90 Hp) on the D85B and 73.8 kW (99 Hp) on the D95B. No serial number ranges are printed, so match it by model. p. 1

How much engine oil, coolant and fuel do the New Holland D85B and D95B take?

With the filter, the engine takes 12.3 l (13 US qt) of oil on the D85B and 15.8 l (16.7 US qt) on the D95B. Both use SAE 10W-30. Without the heater, coolant is 22.5 l (6 US gal) on the D85B and 26.5 l (7 US gal) on the D95B. The fuel tank holds 189.3 L (50 US gal). Hydraulic reservoir refill is 75.7 L (20 US gal). Each final drive takes 14.2 L (15 US qt). p. 860

What are the New Holland D85B and D95B hydraulic relief pressures and pump output?

The main relief valve is set at 203 to 214 bar (2950 to 3100 psi). Circuit relief valves run 214 to 227 bar (3100 to 3300 psi), checked with a hand pump. Neutral system pressure is 12 to 15 bar (180 to 220 psi) at 2000 RPM. Pump output is 76.8 L at 207 bar at 2000 RPM. On the hydrostatic drive, charge pump pressure is 24 bar (350 psi) and pump port pressure is 414 bar (6000 psi). p. 28

How do I set track tension on the New Holland D85B and D95B, and what are the track and final drive torques?

Track deflection should be 38 to 50 mm (1.5 to 2 in). Once the deflection is correct, the valve is tightened to 61 to 74 Nm (45 to 55 lb ft). Master link bolts are torqued to 430 to 470 Nm (318 to 346 lb ft). The final drive to frame mounting bolts take 1160 to 1300 Nm (856 to 959 lb ft). Adjustment and master link work are in the Tracks, Rollers and Idlers section. p. 1098

What is inside this manual: schematics, fault codes, diagnostics?

You get connector diagrams 01 to 08 and electrical schematic frames 01 to 27. Fold-out hydraulic and electrical schematics are at the back. Fault codes are listed for the instrument cluster (AIC), drive train controller (DTC) and engine controller (EDC). Each code has step-by-step cause and solution checks, and there is a fault code index. Engine electrical schematics are in the separate engine repair manual, not this book. p. 228
