This is the factory shop manual for the New Holland E215BJ and E215BJLC hydraulic excavators, and it covers the whole machine, not just the iron. You get full specifications (118 kW / 160 PS rated output, 20,200 kg standard / 20,600 kg LC operating weight), maintenance standards with test procedures, special tools, and tightening torque tables for capscrews and nuts. The System section walks through the Mechatro control system, hydraulic and electric circuits, and the air conditioner. Disassembly and assembly covers the attachment, upper structure, and travel system step by step. Troubleshooting is organized by error code, by symptom, and by the built-in diagnosis mode. A separate Hino diesel engine supplement handles the engine from fuel system to turbocharger.

New Holland E215BJ, E215BJLC Common Problems This Manual Covers

Hydraulic functions slow, weak, or fading under load

Start with the basics before condemning the pump: oil level, air getting pulled into the suction line, clogged filters. The Maintenance standard and test procedure section gives you pressure and performance specs to test against, so you can prove whether the main pump or internal leakage is the real culprit.

Manual Section: Maintenance - Maintenance standard and test procedure p. 88
Boom or attachment drifts down when held stationary

Measure the drift rate against the factory standard first, then reseal the cylinder if it fails. The Disassembly section covers attachment cylinder teardown and assembly, including getting the piston nut torque right, which is where a lot of backyard reseals go wrong and start drifting again.

Manual Section: Disassembly - Attachment p. 420
Hydraulic system overheats or loses performance after warming up

This pattern points at the oil cooler plugging up, contaminated oil, or restricted filters rather than the pump itself. The Hydraulic system section maps the cooling and return circuits so you can find the restriction, and the Maintenance section sets the service intervals that prevent it coming back.

Manual Section: System - Hydraulic system p. 174
Hydraulic alarm stays on after the pressure release procedure

Usually the pressure draining mode was not completed properly or the unloading valve is set wrong. The Trouble diagnosis mode section walks through running the procedure correctly through the Mechatro controller, and the maintenance standards give the valve settings to check the unloading valve against.

Manual Section: Troubleshooting - Trouble diagnosis mode p. 788

Frequently Asked Questions

My boom drifts down when I hold it steady. Does this manual help me find out why?

Yes. Boom drift on these machines usually comes down to internal bypass in the boom cylinder, worn piston seals, or a piston nut that was never torqued right after a reseal. The Maintenance section gives you the maintenance standard and test procedure to measure drift against spec, and the Disassembly section covers pulling and rebuilding the attachment cylinders correctly. p. 420

The excavator shows fault codes on the monitor. Can I diagnose them with this manual?

The Troubleshooting section is built around exactly that: trouble by error codes, trouble by symptom, and the trouble diagnosis mode you enter through the machine itself. The Mechatro controller and the Hino engine ECU are separate systems, and the manual covers both sides, including engine diagnosis codes in the Hino supplement. You work from what the machine reports instead of guessing. p. 692

Hydraulics get weak and slow once the machine warms up. Is there a test procedure for that?

There is. Heat-related fade points at a plugged oil cooler, contaminated oil, restricted filters, or a main pump going soft. The Maintenance section gives the standard test procedures to check pressures and flows against factory numbers, and the System section lays out the full hydraulic circuit so you can trace where the performance is bleeding off. p. 88

Does this cover the Hino engine, or do I need a separate engine manual?

The Hino diesel engine supplement is included. It covers engine mechanical work, the fuel system, cooling, lubrication, starting and charging, the turbocharger, the air compressor, and engine diagnosis codes. For most engine jobs on this machine you will not need another book. p. 794

I have the E215BJLC with the long undercarriage. Same manual?

Yes, both the E215BJ and E215BJLC are covered in this one manual. The Specifications section lists the differences where they matter, like the 20,200 kg versus 20,600 kg fully equipped weights and the undercarriage dimensions. Service procedures are otherwise shared between the two. p. 25
