Before the first slewing ring bolt breaks loose, you want the New Holland MHCity, MHPlus, MH5.6 workshop manual PDF open on the bench: 687 pages of factory service data covering all three MH hydraulic excavators under OEM number 604.13.557. Complete electrical circuit diagrams map each harness with component layouts and pin assignment tables, while the hydraulics section, close to a third of the book, traces the working, slewing, pilot control, and travel circuits through the control block valves. Fault codes get their own troubleshooting chapter, backed by display calibration procedures for after the repair. When the superstructure comes apart, torque the slewing gearbox fastening screws to 250 Nm and the cab baseplate screws to 80 Nm. A guessed torque on a slewing ring is a failure you find months later. Bookmarked and carrying a real text layer for keyword lookup, this PDF is the short route to hours back on the meter.

New Holland MHCity, MHPlus, MH5.6 Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland MHCity hydraulics sluggish and the filter warning comes back soon after a filter change

The return-flow filter sits in the filter chamber of the hydraulic reservoir: pressure switch S15 closes and triggers an optical and acoustic warning when the filter element is contaminated and back-pressure becomes inadmissibly high, and temperature sensor R14 sends the hydraulic oil temperature to the load-limit regulator (page 349). Check the oil level indicator on the reservoir, and depressurize the hydraulic system before opening any line (page 585).

Manual Section: Hydraulics p. 349
Fault code on the multi-function display with a yellow or red warning light and a tone

The central unit, power-control-system and electro-hydraulic controller (ESX) are monitored permanently; a fault shows as a code such as N°7004 in the upper half of the multi-function display with an explanation in the lower half (page 525). A red light with a continuous tone is a severe fault: shut the machine off at once. A yellow light with a single beep must be fixed as fast as possible, but the machine usually stays functional (page 525). ESX codes 9011 to 9047 are listed on page 527.

Manual Section: Troubleshooting p. 525
Swing motion noisy and rough, upper structure develops play over the undercarriage

When refitting the ball-bearing slewing ring, clean the contact faces until metallically bright, dry and free from grease, keep adhesive out of the bores, tighten the new screws with spacers crosswise to MA=250 Nm and mark them, then fill the gaps between the teeth with grease (page 588). The slewing gearbox screws also take MA=250 Nm, tightened crosswise (page 585); the torque table on page 628 lists 280 Nm for the M 16 x 1.5 slewing ring screws.

Manual Section: Repair Instructions p. 588
Driveline vibration and clunking through the frame when starting travel or reversing

When refitting the rigid axle, install the cardan shaft with new self-locking nuts tightened to MA = 60 Nm, with the marker arrows on the outer and inner part pointing exactly towards each other, then fill and bleed the hydraulic and brake systems and grease the cardan shaft (page 599).
