Within the hour you could be draining the crankcase on the NEF six, or probing a harness connector with a meter while a fault code sits on the display. This book covers both jobs on the New Holland Speedrower 220 and 260 Tier 4B (final) windrowers.

This is part number 47824875, 1st edition English, January 2015, written for North American machines. The one book covers draper ready and non-draper ready units. It runs from the F4HFE613A*B001 engine and SCR exhaust treatment through the splitter gearbox, hydrostatic drive, axles, brakes, hydraulics, cab climate control and electrical calibrations.

The fold-out schematics are at the back of the book: electrical 47779258 and 47779280, and hydraulic 47886002 and 47885981.

New Holland Speedrower 220, Speedrower 260 Common Problems This Manual Covers

The engine does not start

The Engine troubleshooting table lists an empty fuel tank as the first cause, and the fix is to refuel. The machine has two fuel tanks holding 454 L (120 US gal) in total. Check the fuel level before you suspect the injection system or start pulling apart the starting circuit.

Manual Section: Engine - Troubleshooting - The Engine Does Not Start p. 68
The engine overheats

The Engine troubleshooting table points to a malfunctioning thermostat, and the fix is to replace it. Refill the cooling system to its 25.7 L (27.2 US qt) capacity. The same table also lists a faulty water pump, a slack water pump drive belt and a low coolant level; so check the belt tension and coolant level as well.

Manual Section: Engine - Troubleshooting - The Engine Overheats p. 68
Noisy charge pump

The Charge pump troubleshooting entry lists plugged fluid filters as the cause, and the fix is to clean or replace them. Do this before you condemn the pump itself. The same table also lists low fluid supply, fluid that is too heavy and a plugged suction line, so check the fluid level, the fluid type and the suction line too.

Manual Section: Charge pump - Troubleshooting - Noisy charge pump p. 484
Little or no air flow into the cab

The Air conditioning testing section names dirty filters as the cause, and the fix is to clean them. Do this before you suspect the compressor and clutch. The cab air flow section shows how air moves through the system.

Manual Section: Air conditioning - Testing - Little or no air flow into cab p. 664

Frequently Asked Questions

Which New Holland Speedrower windrowers does this service manual cover?

It covers the Speedrower 220 and Speedrower 260 Tier 4B (final) self-propelled windrowers sold in North America. This is New Holland service manual 47824875, 1st edition English, January 2015. It covers draper ready and non-draper ready machines. Both models use engine F4HFE613A*B001. p. 1

What engine power and rated speed do the Speedrower 220 and 260 have?

The Speedrower 220 is rated 157 kW (210 Hp) and the Speedrower 260 is rated 187 kW (250 Hp). Both are rated at 2200 RPM. Torque at rated RPM is 682 N·m (503 lb ft) for the 220 and 810 N·m (597 lb ft) for the 260. p. 35

What fluid capacities does the manual give for engine service and refueling?

Engine crankcase oil with filter is 16 l (16.9 US qt), and the cooling system holds 25.7 L (27.2 US qt). The two fuel tanks hold 454 L (120 US gal) in total. The hydraulic system reservoir is 41.6 l (11 US gal). The planetary final drives take 0.89 l (0.94 US qt). The air conditioning system takes 1.9 kg (4.2 lb) of HFC-134A. p. 33

Does the manual give tightening torques for specific machine parts?

Yes. On the rear axle, the axle extension bolts are torqued to 960 N·m (708 lb ft). The rear wheel to wheel hub torque is 115 N·m (85 lb ft). p. 227

Does the manual include electrical and hydraulic schematics and fault codes?

Yes. The book ends with fold-out electrical schematics 47779258 (6-cylinder, non-draper) and 47779280 (6-cylinder, draper). It also has fold-out hydraulic schematics 47886002 (non-draper ready) and 47885981 (draper ready). The Harnesses and connectors chapter has electrical schematic sheets, and the Hydraulic systems chapter has hydraulic schematic frames. The FAULT CODES chapter lists engine and UCM codes with an index. Examples are DTC 1161-Battery voltage is higher than expected and E0040-03- MFH position sensor - Shorted to high source. p. 3021
