The engine is down on power, smokes, or will not hold rated speed.
Work the engine section against its own numbers. Rated power comes at 2300 rpm and peak torque at 1300 rpm, so a tractor that dies below 1300 rpm behaves differently from one that never reaches rated speed. Check the injection pump delivery, since the manual gives a minimum fuel flow rate of 127.6 l/h with the pump shaft turning at 1800 rpm. The section then carries the cylinder head, valve train, crankshaft and piston clearances for a full overhaul.

Find your build first, because the circuit drawings from page 607 to page 1074 are drawn separately for each build and option combination. Read the code and work the fault-code tables at pages 1167 to 1330, then follow the correct circuit drawing to the connector and test it there. If a clutch or transmission function is out of step rather than dead, run the calibration routines in the same chapter before you strip anything.

Measure the circuit before you open it. The hydraulic section gives the pump and supply circuit specifications with the pressure test points, so you can tell a tired pump from a lift or a remote valve that has drifted out of adjustment.
