New Holland TD5010–TD5050 Series Common Problems This Manual Covers

New Holland TD5010 diesel engine won't start after refueling, air bubbles visible in the fuel line

Check pages 20 through 23 for the fuel troubleshooting steps, then loosen the union at the fuel filter head and operate the hand primer until the stream runs clear of bubbles. Bleed each injector line in turn, crank the engine, and torque the injector fasteners to 60 ± 5 Nm on reassembly to stop new air ingress.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting
Complete no-start with dash lights on but starter motor makes no sound or click

Check the battery terminals and cables first; voltage drop across the positive cable should stay under the 0.2 V limit given on page 578. Bench test the starter and confirm current draw falls in the 250 to 300 A range noted on page 577. If the field winding fails the 1 Ω continuity check, replace the starter motor.

Manual Section: Electrical System p. 578
Fuel filters clog quickly, tractor stalls under load or loses power on hills

Check the engine troubleshooting section on pages 20 through 23 for fuel starvation symptoms, then replace both filter cartridges per the service note on page 58. Fuel passes through a wire filter in the supply pump and a replaceable cartridge on the delivery line to the injection pump (page 43); torque the supply pump retaining bolts to 25 ± 5 Nm on reinstall and bleed before restarting.

Manual Section: Engine Troubleshooting
Brakes lock on or grab unevenly, tractor pulls to one side when stopping

Check the brake troubleshooting index on page 376 for unbalanced braking and locked-brake causes. Pull the wheels and measure disc thickness against the 4 mm (0.1575 in.) minimum from page 368; replace any disc below spec. Bleed the hydraulic circuit evenly side to side and adjust service brake pedal travel so both sides engage at the same pedal height.

Manual Section: Brake Troubleshooting p. 376
Steering wheel feels excessively stiff to turn, especially when the engine idles at low RPM

Check the hydrostatic steering fault diagnosis on pages 472 through 473 for stiff-wheel causes. On 2WD models verify the pressure relief valve holds the 100 bar (1450.37 psi) setting specified on page 464; a valve stuck low will starve the steering cylinder. Check pump drive belt tension and top off the reservoir before condemning the steering pump itself.

Manual Section: Hydrostatic Steering Fault Diagnosis p. 472
PTO output shaft slips and loses speed under load when engaging attachments

Check the power take-off troubleshooting notes on page 355 for slipping and speed-loss causes. Inspect the PTO clutch for worn friction plates and verify the PTO box fixing screws are torqued to 221 Nm as specified on page 347. Adjust the PTO clutch linkage and bleed any air from the hydraulic engagement circuit before retesting under load.

Manual Section: Power Take-Off Troubleshooting p. 355
