The head is off, the new gasket is sitting on the block, and the job stalls right there without a torque figure: the tightening tables in this book give 25 ±0.5 kgf/m for the cylinder head main bolts, threads oiled, along with figures for rod bolts, flywheel, and main bearings. It is Yanmar's own service publication for the 6CX-ETE marine diesel, number AOA5023 9205SP, 119 pages in English.

The core of the book is teardown and inspection: disassembly and reassembly procedures, then measurement of pistons, sleeves, connecting rods, crankshaft and main bearings against the service standard tables. Fuel injection pump, governor, and injection valve servicing get their own chapter, alongside lube oil, cooling water, electrical equipment, the turbocharger, and the reduction reversing gears.

It is a PDF download, so it prints page by page for the bench and travels on a phone or laptop to wherever the engine sits, in a hull, on a stand, or in a crate.

Yanmar 6CX-ETE Common Problems This Manual Covers

Overheating from a worn seawater impeller

Temperature creeps up under load when the raw water side loses flow through a worn impeller or a fouled cooler. The Cooling Water System section covers the sea water and fresh water circuits, thermostat inspection, and leak checking, and the manual lists the impeller part number 127695-42010.

Manual Section: Cooling Water System p. 56
Hard starting after sitting

A 6CX-ETE that cranks but will not fire has usually drawn air into the fuel system or plugged its filters. The Fuel Oil System section covers the feed pump, fuel filter, injection pump, and governor, and gives the filter element part number 127695-55630 with a 250 hour replacement interval.

Manual Section: Fuel Oil System p. 60
Low oil pressure when hot

Pressure that sags once the engine warms up points at the lube oil pump, a clogged filter, or the pressure control valve. The Lube Oil System section covers all three, including the separate pressure control valve for the turbine and the filter relief valve setting of 1.8 ±0.2 kgf/cm².

Manual Section: Lube Oil System p. 52
Smoke and weak boost under load

Excessive smoke with a flat top end often traces to the turbocharger rather than the injectors. The Turbocharger chapter gives specifications, installation cautions, tightening torques, service procedures, and wear limits for judging whether the unit goes back on or gets rebuilt.

Manual Section: Turbocharger p. 104
Starter drags or will not engage

A slow, grinding crank on a cold morning is a starting motor or wiring problem before it is anything else. The Electrical Equipment section covers the starting motor, the alternator, and the electric wiring diagram for chasing the fault through the circuit.

Manual Section: Electrical Equipment p. 79
Marine gear slips or engages late

A reduction reversing gear that hesitates going into ahead or slips under throttle needs its hydraulic system and clutch checked. This section covers the structure, power transmission, hydraulic circuit, and clutch, with full disassembly and reassembly, and the hydraulic oil pressure spec of 24 kgf/cm² ±0.5.

Manual Section: Reduction Reversing Gears p. 93
Knock traced to crank bearings

A deep knock at speed means measuring the crankshaft before anything goes back together. The Crankshaft and Main Bearing section covers crankshaft inspection, side clearance, main bearing inspection, the oil seal, and deflection measurement against the wear limits.

Manual Section: Crankshaft and Main Bearing p. 44

Frequently Asked Questions

Which engine does this manual cover?

The Yanmar 6CX-ETE marine diesel engine, Yanmar publication AOA5023 9205SP. Beyond the base engine it covers the reduction reversing gears (marine gear), the turbocharger, front driving equipment, and the electrical equipment, across 119 pages in English.

Does it include torque specs for reassembly?

Yes. The Tightening Torque of Major Bolts and Nuts section lists cylinder head main bolts at 25 ±0.5 kgf/m and connecting rod bolts at 23 ±0.5 kgf/m, plus flywheel, main bearing, and camshaft drive gear figures. The head bolts go on in three stages, not one: 12 ±0.25 kgf·m, then 18 ±0.5 kgf·m, then the final 25 ±0.5 kgf·m, with the sequence given on page 35. p. 118

Are valve and injection settings listed?

The Adjustment and Set Values section covers intake and exhaust valve settings, injection start, fuel injection pressure at 240 ±5 kgf/cm², top clearance, and lube oil for the engine, clutch, hydro, and turbo. p. 117

Does it cover the marine gear, not just the engine?

Yes. The Reduction Reversing Gears section covers major specifications, power transmission, structure, the hydraulic system, and the clutch, through full disassembly and reassembly. p. 93

How quickly can I access this manual after buying?

You get a 119-page searchable PDF that downloads instantly after checkout. Open it on your laptop, tablet, or phone, and bring it right to the shop floor.

Are there any print restrictions on this manual?

Yes, print as many copies as you want, and there are no restrictions. Many mechanics print the section they need and bring it to the shop floor.

Can I find hydraulic circuit diagrams in this Yanmar 6CX-ETE manual?

The hydraulic coverage here is the marine gear's. The Reduction Reversing Gears section covers its hydraulic system alongside the clutch and power transmission, and the specifications give the marine gear hydraulic oil pressure as 24 kgf/cm² ±0.5 on page 5. The separate Piping Diagram section covers the fuel oil, sea water, fresh water and lube oil circuits.
