Yanmar C30R-3 Common Problems This Manual Covers

Yanmar C30R-3 won't travel straight after hydraulic or brake service, pulls hard to one side p. 22

Perform the air-bleeding cycle on page 21 repeatedly: run forward, then reverse travel until the machine tracks straight. Verify hydraulic oil is at the correct level for the 38 L (10 gal) total system capacity shown on page 39 after each cycle. Warm the machine to operating temperature before the final straight-travel test per page 22.

Manual Section: General Cautions for Maintenance Work
Travel is weak, jerky, or carrier does not respond normally in forward or reverse p. 673

Verify charge relief pressure is at 2.8 MPa (406 PSI) as spec'd on page 27. Disconnect and reconnect the parking-brake solenoid harness, then test forward and reverse travel separately. If pressure holds but travel stays sluggish, inspect travel motor displacement against the 33.8 cm3/rev low-speed value on page 28 and work through the HST troubleshooting chart on page 673.

Manual Section: HST System Relationship Troubleshooting
Hydraulic oil overflows through breathers during air bleeding after service, tank level drops p. 21

Follow the numbered air-release sequence; oil overflowing through breathers 3, 4, 5, and 6 on page 21 is the signal that each circuit is purged, not a sign of overfill. Stop at overflow, re-tighten each breather, then top up to the 38 L (10 gal) system capacity on page 39 and recheck level before startup.

Manual Section: General Cautions for Maintenance Work
Parking brake solenoid harness disconnected during repairs, carrier won't release or move on one side

Reconnect the parking-brake solenoid harness fully before any travel test. Measure brake release pressure; it should reach 2.8 MPa (406 PSI) per the spec on page 27. If both tracks engage but one side drags or won't turn, run the complete travel-motor checks beginning on page 673 before condemning the solenoid or motor.

Manual Section: Travel Motor Troubleshooting
Rubber tracks worn below spec or undercarriage vibrating excessively during loaded carrier operation p. 66

Inspect rubber track lug height and replace if worn below the 0.32 in. (8 mm) wear limit on page 66. Measure track roller shaft diameter against the Ø61.69 mm minimum at the same time. On reassembly, torque sprocket bolts to 138 to 151 ft·lbf (186 to 206 N·m) per page 73.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I release air from the hydraulic system on the Yanmar C30R-3?

To release air from the hydraulic system, disconnect harness 1 from the parking brake solenoid valve. Remove the connector from drain port 2 of the hydraulic pump, fill the front case housing with hydraulic oil, and reinstall the connector. Loosen air breathers 3, 4, 5, and 6 on the front and rear case. Start the engine, run at idle speed, and move the travel lever repeatedly. Once hydraulic oil begins to overflow through the air breathers, tighten breathers 3, 4, 5 and 6. Restart the engine, run at 1800 to 2200 rpm and move the machine forward and backward 5 or 6 times. Full procedure is on page 20-21 of the manual.

Why won't my Yanmar C30R-3 travel straight after hydraulic or brake service?

If the carrier pulls to one side after hydraulic or brake service, perform the full air-bleeding cycle on page 21 repeatedly: run forward then reverse until the machine tracks straight. Verify hydraulic oil is at the correct level for the 38L (10 gal) total system capacity shown on page 39 after each cycle. Warm the machine to operating temperature before the final straight-travel test per page 22.

What should I check if travel is weak, jerky, or the C30R-3 does not respond normally?

Verify charge relief pressure is at 2.8 MPa (406 PSI) as specified on page 27.

When should I replace the rubber tracks on the Yanmar C30R-3?

Replace rubber tracks when lug height wears below the 0.32 in. (8 mm) wear limit on page 66. Also measure track roller shaft diameter against the 61.69 mm minimum at the same time. On reassembly, torque sprocket bolts to 138 to 151 ft·lbf (186 to 206 N·m) per page 73.
