Part of the Case IH Repair Manuals.
The monitor throws a row blocked warning, the vacuum fans sound lazy and rain is forecast by the weekend. This Case IH factory service manual covers the Early Riser 1240 Pivot-Transport planter in 12 Row, 16 Row, 24 Row 20, 12/23 split row and 16/31 split row builds.
It explains the electro-hydraulic system on tractor-remote and PTO pump setups. It covers the lift and pivot, marker, coulter bar, multivalve, bulk fill and liquid fertilizer valve blocks, plus PTO pump and gearbox overhaul. Pneumatic down pressure, the AccuRow air clutch, vacuum metering and the Rate, Frame and clutch control ECUs are all included, with wiring schematics and fault procedures.
Guessing costs money. You end up buying a cartridge you didn't need, tearing down a seed meter twice or replacing a compressor when the fuse was blown. Test it once, fix it and get back in the field while the ground is fit.

Case IH 1240 Common Problems This Manual Covers
Hydraulic motor speed too slow
Push the pin in the proportional control cartridge. If the motor speeds up, the problem is likely electrical: the solenoid, wiring, software, setup or a sensor. If it doesn't speed up, look for a restriction in the hydraulic supply. Pull the solenoid and cartridge and check the screen underneath for debris. Also check the tractor's flow control and whether the tractor can deliver the flow. On PTO pump systems, make sure the filter and pump inlet aren't blocked.
Manual Section: Introduction - Hydraulic motor speed too slow p. 6Row blocked warning on the display
Possible causes are low vacuum or a vacuum fan that's off, an empty seed hopper, a blocked seed tube, a dirty seed sensor lens, a broken drive chain or a faulty Rate ECU. Check that the vacuum fan is running and look at the vacuum reading. Then check the seed level and the drive chain. Test the seed sensor with the smart seed sensor test tool before you replace anything.
Manual Section: Fault codes [50.A] - Row blocked p. 641Down force too low warning
Switch the tractor key between OFF and RUN and confirm the compressor runs and the relay clicks. If it stays quiet, check the compressor fuse, relay and wiring. If the compressor runs, look for leaks at hoses, fittings and the air bags. Then check the down pressure sensor, the pilot valve and its wiring. A faulty Rate ECU is the last suspect.
Manual Section: Fault codes [50.A] - Down force too low p. 732Radar speed fault
This fault sets when the implement travels faster than 70 km/h (45 mph), when the radar distance calibration is wrong or when the calibration value wasn't stored correctly in the Rate ECU. Check your actual ground speed first. Then check the radar calibration value, which should be about 10.00 depending on the radar model.

What relief pressure does the tractor remote need to run the Case IH 1240 planter?
The tractor remote needs a minimum relief pressure of 18616 kPa (2700 psi). p. 35
What oil flow does the 22 US gpm PTO pump on the 1240 deliver at 1000 RPM?
At 1000 RPM PTO speed, with oil at 26.6 °C (80 °F) and the pump loaded to 15858 kPa (2300 psi), output should be 83.3 - 89.3 L/min (22.0 - 23.6 US gpm). p. 36
How much hydraulic flow do the vacuum fans and seed drives on the 1240 need?
The flow guideline lists averages per component. Each vacuum fan takes 10 US gpm and each seed drive motor takes 4.5 US gpm. The bulk fill fan takes 11 US gpm, the liquid fertilizer drive motor 2.5 US gpm and toolbar raise/lower 13 US gpm. p. 7
How do I set the ground speed sensor gap on the 1240 planter?
Set a nominal gap of 2 mm (0.07 in) between the sensor and the sprocket. The working range is 0.5 - 5 mm (0.02 - 0.19 in). p. 802
How do I test a lift (raise) solenoid coil on the 1240?
Put the positive (+) multimeter lead on pin A and the negative (-) lead on pin B. A good coil reads 6 - 9 ohms. If it reads outside that range, replace the solenoid coil. p. 1094
