Check the fuel filter first, as this is the top cause of hard starts after overnight storage. Drain water from the fuel filter bowl and inspect for sediment. If the filter is overdue, replace it (see pages 106-108 for the drain and replacement procedure). Also verify the fuel tank has at least several litres of clean diesel; tank capacity is 60 litres (page 19). If the engine still won't fire after fresh fuel and a clean filter, bleed air from the fuel system following the air removal steps on pages 106-108.

Stop and check hydraulic fluid level before continuing operation. Refer to the warning lights and gauges section starting on page 48 to identify which indicator is lit. Low hydraulic pressure (maximum system pressure is 180 bar per page 20) is often caused by air in the lines from an improper fluid top-off. Inspect the hydraulic reservoir sight glass for correct level and look for any visible fluid leaks around hose connections. If the light stays on after confirming fluid level, check the Lubrication and Preventive Maintenance schedule on page 96 for your service interval status.

Shut down immediately and let the engine cool before opening anything. Check coolant level at the reservoir. Never open a hot radiator cap. Inspect the fan belt tension on page 97; a loose belt reduces cooling efficiency. Clean any debris from the radiator face and oil cooler fins. Review the service interval log on page 121 to confirm the last radiator service date. Do not restart until the coolant level is confirmed correct and the fan belt shows proper tension.

Park on level ground and shut the engine off before servicing the air cleaner. Remove and inspect the primary filter element following pages 98 and 110-111. Tap the element gently on a clean surface to dislodge loose dust. Do not use compressed air unless you are at least 1 metre away from the element. If the element is oily, torn, or heavily fouled, replace it. Check the pre-cleaner bowl for accumulated dust and empty it. Reinstall and confirm the housing seals are seated correctly before restarting.

Check brake pedal free travel adjustment on page 105 before assuming a mechanical fault. Uneven travel between left and right pedals is the most common cause of one-sided dragging during turns. Adjust pedal free travel to the specification shown on page 105 and verify both pedals are synchronized when latched together for road travel. Also check tire pressure on both rear tires (see pages 37-42 for maximum tire pressures), as mismatched pressures cause the tractor to pull under braking.

Check clutch pedal free travel adjustment on page 104 before suspecting internal wear. Insufficient free travel causes the clutch to ride partially disengaged; too much free travel causes drag and difficult shifts. Adjust to the specification on page 104. Also review the Lubrication and Preventive Maintenance section on page 96 to confirm transmission oil level is correct, as low oil accelerates clutch and synchronizer wear. If adjustment is within spec and the problem continues, record the hourmeter reading and report to your dealer.
